#1 seeds: Louisville, UCONN, Pitt, and UNC.
Ohio has the most teams from one state.
Saint Mary's, Creighton, San Diego State, and Kentucky were not selected.
People are shocked by Arizona making it with a 19-13 record.
I believe Siena, VCU, and/or Western Kentucky will win at least one game in the NCAA tournament.
Any thoughts?

So I'm in front of the computer with Comcast Sportsnet on the TV. The "SportsNite" host says that tickets were just released for this weekend's games at the Wachovia Center. I quickly went to NCAA.com and now I have a ticket for the whole session -- afternoon and evening games Thursday and the Saturday games! The only thing is that they're labeled General Admission. I hope that doesn't mean standing room only.

People should be shocked that my Trojans won the Pac-10 Tournament.
No really, is it that the Pac-10 sucks, the other teams took SC lightly, or that Floyd (SC's coach) prepped them well for post-season play? I'd say it's a lil bit of all the above.
We'll see how the the Pac-10 does...but I'm not holding my breath, not even for my Trojans. Don't get me wrong. I'll be rooting for all of the teams but I'm being realistic...

I keep hearing that the tournament is so 'wide open' this year. Do people really think that? Seems to me there are about 6 teams who have a realistic chance to win it all, and that's about the same as previous years. My six teams:
UNC
Louisville
Pitt
UConn
Oklahoma
and MAYBE Memphis
I just don't see the other 2 seeds or any of the 3 seeds having a realistic shot. Of the 3 seeds, MAYBE Villanova.
We'll see. I can't wait! Let's go Pitt!

I am very looking forward to seeing my 'Heels (class of '99) in Greensboro. Would like to see Lawson play some this week, but I think we'll be okay on Thursday at least. I have Tyler and the boys winning it all in every pool I'm in and I'd definitely like to see Oklahoma get knocked out before the regional finals.
Any Carolina fans out there?? Let's get it going....

I picked up my tickets today. Turns out they've assigned me an actual seat location after all. Go figure.

This is the first year in memory that I didn't fill out a bracket. The economy, too much work, not paying enough attention to sports, disappointing end to the season for my team--my heart just wasn't in it. This will probably hurt my enjoyment of early-round games but help from the regional finals onward, when my bracket would inevitably have been busted.
Good luck to everyone's schools!

I had an opportunity to watch some of the games this morning b4 I went to work (I start @ 11:45 am). The CSUN-Memphis game was pretty exciting. For a while there I thought that a major upset was about to happen...
I just happen to notice these ridiculous scores online:
(16) Chattanooga-47
(1) Connecticut-103
&
(16) Radford-58
(1) North Carolina-101
What a gawd awful embarrassment. As much as I LOVE March madness & think that the NCAAB Tourney is right on, I have to question if Chattanooga & Radford really belonged in it (from a talent point of view). I can't even imagine the feeling that the players must have after such blowout games.

So I may end up eating my words. The Pac-10 goes 5-1 in the 1st round. I'm impressed considering that the pundits & I thought 1-5 in round 1.

It's interesting that all through the regular season, it seemed that the Big East and ACC were viewed as far stronger than the other power conferences, but it hasn't played out that way so far in the tournament. The ACC is a measly 3-4, worse than the much-maligned big 10. The Big East is 6-1, but with all seven of their teams being top 6 seeds, that's not as impressive as the records posted in the first round by the Big 12 and Pac-10, which both managed to get half the conference into the second round.
It's funny how often the teams that everybody complains about the committee including--Arizona and Wisconsin this year--end up providing those 5-12 upsets.

Perhaps the ACC & Big East are stronger conferences but what it boil downs to, @ least imho, is that the Tourney, single-elimination games, March Madness brouhaha & spotlight, etc., places a different type of pressure on teams. Only those that can rise above that stress truly are winners. Obviously, conference play is pressure-filled, but somehow the Tourney brings out a unique form of character, if you will, to most teams. That's why there's such appeal for this time of year. As much as CFB is my fave sport, the Tourney usually lives up to its hype.

Definitely enjoyed the day in Boise.
I wanted Utah State to beat Marquette. But ironically it was a kid from Buffalo(Lazar Hayward) who brought Marquette to victory.
Cornell and Portland State just weren't good enough to beat Mizzou and Xavier.
And we got a great finale in Wisconsin/Florida State! With Marquette and Wisconsin the cheeseheads are feeling fine this morning.
Got lotsa stuff on
my blog with a silly satire about trying to find Larry Craig.

And it must hurt so bad to lose to a team coached by a former Duke player.
( I waited until Duke beat Texas to make this comment.)
Way to go OU. I'd love to see an OU Carolina match up in the elite 8. I sure hope Duke can make it past Nova. They look too good. The Big East is a beast this year.

Congrats to the Big East on getting a record 5 teams into the Sweet 16. The argument (by JC, I think) that this is not as impressive as it seems because the conference had all their teams seeded in at least the top 6 is pretty contradictory. There is a REASON we had all our teams seeded that high. Duh.
I am proud that my Pitt Panthers weathered two huge storms in Dayton. The first was their own ridiculous lack of effort against ETSU. There were times during that game that I was certain we would be the answer to a trivia question. The second was the hailstorm of 3's that OKLA St. hit yesterday. What people don't realize is that Pitt made only 3 fewer 3's in the first half, so we were right with them. OKLA State plays a nearly perfect half, and we are still tied with them. Our toughness really showed.
I am confident again in this team. I wasn't so confident after the early exit in the BE Tourney and the showing against ETSU. And this back-and-forth of confidence/no confidence pretty much defines life as a Pitt fan!
p.s., If you can't tell, I would LOVE IT if the Final Four was all Big East!

Well, obviously the Big East lived up to expectations in the second round, but I'll stick to my story that going 6-1 in the first round with 5 wins against teams seeded 14-16 isn't anything special. The 14 seeds are NIT level opponents and the 16's aren't even that.
