Best news possible to start the season:
After 10 long years, the ballpark was finally approved yesterday...construction starts in June. Team will be re-named prior to moving into the park in 2012.
Ballpark will rise at the site of the old Orange Bowl, which came down last year...

Funny jokes, but capacity will be 37,000, and at least now we won't have to get soaking wet every single freakin' time we go to a game....
Seriously, Dolphin Stadium had to be the worst place to watch a game in the majors....

So the public puts up almost exactly three-quarters of the cost, and the team gets virtually all of the revenues. That's not quite as bad as the Washington Nationals deal, but it's in the same, er, ballpark, especially when you consider that virtually all of the spending at the Marlins' new home will be cannibalized from existing spending elsewhere in Miami-Dade County — unless you really believe that more people will schedule summer vacations to Florida so that they can see the Marlins play.
Miami residents, in the end, will be paying a high, high price to free themselves from the team's constant move threats and get to watch ballgames without fear of getting rained on. Now that the deed is done, you have to hope that at least more fans will actually use the place than turned out to be the case in D.C., or this could be another boondoggle for the ages.

It'll make it convenient for the traveling fans of other teams who won't have to worry about rainouts (unless a hurricane's bearing down, of course).

We have been waiting for this park for a long, long time. I know many people that refuse to go to Dolphin Stadium to watch a game as it is really not fan friendly. I'm personally very excited and I'm sure the attendance will dramatically improved. BTW the Marlins ranked among the top ten TV markets based on ratings which would suggest that the fan base is there but the excitement to go to Dolphin Stadium is not.

I'm a Marlins fan also...Been one since their 2nd game ever. I'll finally get over to Miami to watch them play the Dodgers...My other favorite team. I have seen the Marlins play a bunch in St. Pete against the Devil Rays. I, too, was also nervous about rainouts and heat. But, I will brave the elements a bit in May. Hopefully the weather won't be too bad then. But how about the awesome start we're having? Damn, I wish it was October already....

It is not the best baseball park out there but I can confidently say that is it better than several others. Tropicana Field is the worst and the A's Coliseum close behind it. The only great thing about Dolphin Stadium is that you can get great seats even the day before the game.

Does Comcast not carry that Sun Sports network at all? Interesting. This isn't listed on the Wikipedia page for Comcast under "Controversies - Sports;" perhaps it should be?
QUOTE
After the Montreal Expos baseball team relocated to Washington, D.C. to become the Washington Nationals in 2004, Comcast alienated many fans in the area by refusing to add the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), which airs the team's games, to its channel lineup. In July 2006, as a condition of its approval of Comcast's takeover of a portion of Adelphia's assets, the FCC ordered Comcast to enter into binding arbitration with MASN to settle their dispute. As a result, on August 4, 2006, it was announced that Comcast would carry MASN programming starting in September 2006.
In the Philadelphia region, Comcast uses the FCC's "terrestrial loophole" to avoid negotiations with satellite television services for delivery of Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, which is transmitted via a microwave broadcasting system instead of satellite (as its predecessor, PRISM, was a local-only service). This essentially denies competition in the Philadelphia market for games of the Philadelphia Phillies (baseball), Philadelphia 76ers (basketball), and Philadelphia Flyers (hockey). Comcast does, however, supply Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia programming to Verizon for their competing FiOS video service, even though FiOS is not available to residents of the city of Philadelphia.
A smaller controversy arose when Comcast and Cox Communications announced that their systems in Connecticut (outside of Comcast's systems in New Haven, Danbury, and the Northwest Corner — all areas considered to have a sizable number of Mets fans) would not be adding SNY in 2006, if ever, for varying reasons not fully explained. This came to the anger of Mets fans who would need to switch to satellite to watch games due to all of the state being in the Mets' designated territory (thus, games would not be available through MLB Extra Innings, and most ESPN telecasts would be blacked-out). Comcast's purchase of Adelphia's systems in the state and Cox's skeptical eye towards RSN carriage in regards to fan loyalties (also done with YES and NESN in the past) also could be factors. In March 2008, Comcast systems in Plainville and Hartford added SNY to the expanded basic lineup.
This is especially weird since SNY is partly owned by Comcast.
QUOTE
Comcast does not offer SportSouth as part of its programming package in the Middle Tennessee area which has affected thousands of Atlanta Braves and college sports fans. Braves fans in the Nashville area are basically left in the dark due to Comcast's refusal to add the popular sports channel. However, the channel is offered as part of its programming package in the Knoxville, Memphis and Chattanooga area.
Comcast does not carry WGN (which broadcasts Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox games nationally) in Miami-Dade County.
And that doesn't even include their fight with the NFL Network and the fact that they don't carry ESPNU.

Yes...Comcast carries Sunsports, but when the Marlins are on there, there's other programming on even though on the cable guide, it'll say Marlins Baseball... They do carry all of the Rays games though. If you go FSNSports.com and click on Marlins, there's a link that says "Not watching the game" and gives a reason about Comcast not carrying games and to write tthem to show it on that station...yada, yada, yada. Ticks me off everytime a game is on Sunsports.

When was the last time you visited the Trop? The new ownership has done SO much over the past few years to make it a thousand times better than it used to be. The Rays need a new stadium in a somewhat better location (I selfishly have no problem with it), but the Trop is perfectly serviceable until a time comes that a new stadium is feasible.
There was also an issue with Comcast carrying Rays games that are on Sun. Several carriers (Verizon, Cox) weren't going to, but eventually ponied up the money that Sun was asking. I believe that Cox is the only one right now still not doing it.

I am surprised as anyone at the Marlins 11-1 start, but I want to see a little more of them against the rest of the league. I don't know if 6 of the 11 wins coming at the expense of the Nationals is all because of a woeful Washington pen or if the Florida hitting is that good in the clutch. BTW Manny Acta was on ESPN saying a bullpen overhaul is going to take place because what he getting now is totally unacceptableto the team and the fans.

Admittedly, the Nats are not exactly top flight competition, but the Fish have a very strong team this year. You could see this talent start to gel last year. The only weakness is their bullpen, which seems to be improving...
Starting pitching is strong, and they are also loaded in the farm system as well.
They are doing all of this without Hanley Ramirez' bat as well....
When he starts hitting...look out!

Getting back to the topic at the beginning of this thread..... (I am glad the Marlins are playing well.... their record at this point is AWESOME!) I really don't think Lindstrom is fully recovered from the shoulder injury he got in the WBC. They should let him have the setup role for a while until he does better and have Leo Nunez be the closer.
