Say, I heard recently that there's a sports bar in San Francisco, the Final Final, where a huge number of UT exes watch the games every week. Anybody been there? Do we have enough outsports UT alum here to get a contingent over there?

BillSF, Final Final is a cool little place just outside the Presidio and close to the watering zones of Cow Hollow and the Marina. We used to go there for post exam cocktails in law school. It's a straight bar, but in SF, unless it's a gang banger place, most barkeeps and patrons are cool with anything. I did drop a note to mail@outsports.com adding my name to whatever list exists for getting up a MNFootball group and suggested the Pilsener Inn on Church at Market as a possible venue, but any place is fine with me. Personally, I prefer getting together for college games over the pros, and I often attend Cal or Stanford games and am going to try to get over to Fresno soon to see those guys in action. Maybe we can round up a road trip!

Even after yesterday, I'd be up for catching a game there. I saw the Tech game there last week. That was my first time. It's a small friendly bar that got packed for the game, mostly TexasExes. I'd get there early if you want a place to sit. Let's keep in touch.

I found out about the Final Final from another SF guy who got my e-mail address from someone here on outsports.com. So, that makes at least 4 of us outsports guys. How cool is the Final Final if the gay contingent possibly grows a bit more than this? I'm not worried about it, just wondering since I've never been to the place.

Another place that I have gone for various sporting events is Kezars Pub on Stanyon and Waller. It is right accross the road from the Golden Gate Park. I know that the Michigan State Alumni group get together there for alot of the spartan sporting events and have a good time. I really have only seen groups of spartans, wolverines(UofM contingence) and Jayhawk (kansas) fans get together in large groups but i am sure other groups also go there.
For any one in the area that may be interested i know this upcoming weekend i will be there at 9 am to watch my spartans versus the hawkeyes of iowa. go green

A delicious straight friend of mine (whom I onced hired - he was Puerto Rican by way of Jacksonville) invited me to some sports bar in the Inner Sunset a couple of years ago to watch Jaguars games. I think it was Kezar's, but I never went.
I'm not one of the UT exes or a spartan, but I'd love to meet up with you guys to watch some football at either that place or Final Final. Or anywhere else in the City.

Hey guys, Isn't this coming Saturday the Texas-Baylor game? Ya'll wanna finally try and set up a date? We can't let the Dallas group upstage us with their event, now can we???
It would be fun to do it a a gay bar, but I'm totally out of touch with that scene (which is half good/half bad). Can someone help me build up some enthusiasm for this by suggesting a place where we can meet and watch the game? I got a bunch of other e-mails from people trying to get together with other Horns, so I'll do my part in the invites..........

Hey Bill, thanks for the invite email. I'm game, but I don't know where to suggest.
Somebody said in another thread that Uncle Bert's in the Castro is a good place to watch sports. Maybe that's a possibility...on 18th between Castro and [whatever that street is between Castro and Noe].

I'd be up for meeting, but the first test is: are they showing the game? Texas-Baylor is not likely to be on the screen of a bar with no satellite or just a few TV's. That's what makes Final Final attractive, the game is on there for sure. Jillian's in the Metreon is also a possibility if we can check in advance that the game will be on there. Final Final has a pretty big crowd Saturday's, and it can be raucous. It's obviously very frat party ish, but that's fine with me. If anyone has a problem with sort of ultra-straight atmosphere, maybe we should think of another bar.

Yeah, I was about to say that we need to make sure that the game is going to be on television at whatever place we decide on. I guess the Final Final is the only place we can be certain is going to show it. I forgot to check what the gametime is also. I guess that would help.

Damn, I wish there was a Taco Cabana nearby (2 chorizo & egg breakfast tacos and an oj, please)

Eccomi, ragazzi!* MY big game this Saturday is alma mater Illinois at Purdue, 9 a.m. PST on ESPN. Michigan/MSU is set for ABC, but only on PPV here in the Bay Area, if that. The Pilsner Inn, on Church just south of Market is a decent place, but they don't serve food, which would be nice at that early hour. The sports bar on the ground level of the Marriott at 4th & Mission (MUNI/BART: Powell) is a nice place with plenty of tubes and they do serve chow, as does Jillians, but is Jillians open that early??? What would make my day is to find a sports bar in SF that serves Mexican breakfast and has a bunch of screens. The bars I know in the Mission that might qualify in that regard don't in my book because they tend to be dives. On the other hand, O'Shea's on Geary might work. Kezar's, Final Final or any of the Union St./Greenwich Triangle pubs are ok, too. BTW, I'm generally MUCH more comfortable in a "fratbar" than most gay bars, being MUCH more of a fratboy than a gayboy!

Unlike sooners, Longhorns are well educated liberal people with a discerning degree of tolerance. Although sooners pretty much suck, we'll get over it.

Joe, I left the silent "c" out in my original e-mail for the benefit of the sooner readers. One of OU's required senior year courses is "Hooked on Phonics" and I just didn't want to confuse them.

BF, Good call on the pics from IU game; some real lookers in that crowd! But, who will have the Final Final say over the remote tomorrow morning, Big Tenners or Twelvers??? Looks like I may end up at the Cal-AZ game in Berkeley after watching my Illini kick your butts at home. (If it's any consolation to you, I went to Wabash for two years and have a soft spot for PU too!) Where are we gonna go for Meeechigan-OSU???

Sorry I missed the Final Final game, guys. I had to cancel at the last minute due to tendinitis in both wrists.
Actually, I just wasn't feeling that great this morning and decided to take it easy. Hope you all had a good time! Maybe the next one will be a little later in the day

Well, we looked for ya dude. You missed a great Texas win! Final Final is a really cool place, lots of cute boys. There was one guy there for the Purdue game, which they were watching on the front TVs, in this grey sweatshirt....mmmmmmmmmm I tell ya, I was about to try and pretend I was from Indiana, but since I've never been there I just didn't know how. God, he was hot though!
It got kind of weird, after the game the Longhorn fans sang "The Eyes of Texas" with the Longhorn finger thing. It's been quite a while since I've been a Longhorn, and that just seemed so juvenile. But, since there were so many cute boys, I sang out in my best tenor voice!
Let's get something together for a game that has a little bit more universal appeal. Like, maybe the next 49ers game? That way, there's no collegiate affiliation garbage. We need to get the outsporters in SF together!

Next 49ers game sounds cool to me. Sunday will probably work a little better than Saturday, too.
Glad you guys had fun. Sounds like it was an interesting experience!

"collegiate affiliation garbage" "longhorn finger thing" "juvenile"
Wow.
Damn glad I got stuck in the South Bay. I would have hated to offend Bill or others from the board by singing the Eyes of Texas, or, maybe yelling when we scored, or by watching the game instead of the "cute boys" (yuck). Maybe you should have gone to the Castro after all. To each his own.

Sorry sjtexasex, but we all supported the Longhorns to the max. What's you're problem? And looking at cute boys, do you have a problem with that? And yes, we watched every minute of the game cheering the Longhorns to their victory. You were not there, if you were, you would have had a different picture. We had fun and the Longhorns won, I really don't understand your problem. Cute boys (yuck), do you realize this is a gay discussion board?

WABASH-DePAUW GAME - SATURDAY, 11-10-01!
The OLDEST college rivalry west of the Alleghenies, the Monon Bell, will be telecast to a group of intensely interested Wabash and DePauw alums this Saturday at Zeke's, 3rd & Brannan in SF, starting at 10 a.m. Wabash, a men's college with an enrollment of about 800, and DePauw, a small coed university which numbers Dan Quayle among its alums, are both located in central Indiana, about an hour's drive from each other, and respectively equidistant from Purdue and IU. This rivalry is always hot and you can throw out each team's record coming into this game. Stop by if you're interested in seeing some interesting Division III college ball!
And then afterward, who's got some bigger game action???

Bay Area Longhorns:
Anyone have any interest in getting together to watch the Big XII championship where the Longhorns are certain to beat the hell out of the Buffs for the 2nd time this season?? Given what an amazing road to the championship game both teams took, its certain to be a great game.
I'm all for the Final Final. Uncle Bert's in the Castro might work too -- I can't imagine what else they'd be showing on a Saturday in December. I'd be up for any other suggestions as well.

The Final Final is cool with me. I've never been to Uncle Bert's but I've heard it's not really a sports bar, I just don't know.
Why don't we all meet at the Final Final? Game time is 5pm PST, right?? Should be a BIG CROWD there, so if you want a seat get there early.
