Stay tuned for more details next week, but save the date - Tuesday August 12 will be Gay Day (actually night) at Veterans Stadium with the Phillies.

Is this something official from the Phillies, or are you (or someone) planning it? I already have tickets for that game (part of my 16-game plan) but I can sell them or something so I can sit with the Outsports gang.

It's official from the Phillies. The Phillies have already made flyers advertising the evening for distribution. I'll have ticket ordering information next week.

Of course, it's a game against the Brewers in August, not...oh, Sept. 28 against the Braves. wink But still...way to go, Phils!

Pat Burrell is MY lover. You can't have him. wink

C'mon guys, no fighting. This is our first gay day with the Phillies. They'll think we're only coming to see Pat. Personally, I'll take Lieby. Will have flyers advertising gay day with the phils SundayOut (street festival) tomorrow.

Scottie, nice meeting you today at the outfest table handing out the Phillies Gay Day flyers. How much interest do you think was generated?

Playoff games have too few tickets available after the leagues, teams, sponsors, etc. take their cuts, then the allocations to the season-ticket holders. And I know we'll need LOTS of seats. wink
I was unable to go to the SundayOUT since I had to be treated to a belated birthday dinner...I'd love to know how this all was put together.
will the braves have a gay day this season? anyone know?

PhillyRunner - it was great to meet you Sunday. So glad I wore my Outsports.com t-shirt. Handing out the flyers, a lot of people seemed excited by the prospect of a gay day at the Vet. Joe - stay tuned for details on how this came about. By the end of the week, there should be a ticket order form online. The Phillies organization has been incredible in dealing with them on this. Who would have guessed?

Jun 10 2003, 06:33 AM
So I woke up this morning to the sound of sports-talk station WIP on my clock radio, and learned that the "Gay Day with the Phillies" advertisement is in the current edition of the Philadelphia Gay News. It seems that Morning Show ringleader Angelo Cataldi was alerted to the ad by one of his "Morning Show Hall of Fame" callers, Kim the Lesbian, so he mentioned it on the air.
In the short time I was listening before I left for work, I heard two anti-gay callers (both of whom went out of their way to agree with Rick Santorum's bigoted commentary) along with the aforementioned Kim the Lesbian. She says she was happy to see the ad (duh) and plans to attend, and also said that the gay section would probably have "all women--I don't know how many guys would be interested." Sheesh.
Just before I left for work, former Flyers winger Keith Jones was reading off some of the Outsports "Brass Balls" awards. But not only did he not mention Outsports by name, but he kept pronouncing the last name of Edgar Renteria as "Rent-a-rear-a." Whether this was deliberate or he's just illiterate, I'll leave it to you to judge. But for the record, he had no problem pronouncing the name of Mark Grudzielanek.

JoeinPhilly -- why do you even listen to those idiots on WIP? It's not even entertainment as far as I'm concerned -- just a bunch of bashing. I didn't see the ad in the PGN but it should be fun, whenever it is.

What are the latest plans for Gay Day at the Phillies? -- if it's still against the Brew Crew, we may come up from D.C. for the day.

I listen to the morning show because they're funny. To each his own, I guess.
The ad is on page 34 of the June 6-12 edition and it's about 2/3 of the page in size. (I picked up a copy at Tower Records while picking up Annie Lennox at lunch.)

DCBucky:

The game is August 12 at 7:05 pm against those mighty Milwaukee Brewers. wink
I sent a private message to scottie, which he has not yet read since he's apparently fallen off the face of the earth or something. wink Anyway, since the order blank only allows you to choose the price range ($18.00 for 500 level, $12.00 for 600 level) but not actual seats, and since the ad is out to the public at large, that if Outsporters wanted to see the game and sit together, we'd all have to order our tickets together. So I suggested that one person place an order for all Outsporters, and volunteered my services and credit card. wink Unless scottie knows of a way we can sit together but order separately. So...if anyone's interested, post here and we'll see what we can come up with. Out-of-towners welcome...even New Yorkers! wink

Well, I finally heard from scottie. Apparently he
didn't run off with Seph, so maybe I still have a chance. And hey, Seph, I hear we can get legally married in Canada now! wink Anyway, I think the easiest and best thing to do is just take orders and put in one order to the Phillies.
So if any of us Outsporters want to go to this game and sit together as a group, then post here or e-mail me and let me know how many tickets you want, and which price ticket is your first preference--$18.00 for 500 level, $12.00 for 600 level. Whichever level draws the most interest is the one that we'll buy the tickets for. The view is definitely better from the 500 level, though.
The deadline is July 27th. On the 28th I'll place the order for all of our seats and we'll then arrange ticket distribution, meeting time, etc.
Of course, you are certainly free to order your own seats separately. According to scottie, the ticket order form will be online shortly and he'll post the link when it's available. But wouldn't you really rather be part of an Outsports bunch? Especially after reading of our exploits in LA, and Montreal, and the Sunday NFL gatherings in NYC, etc., this should be a no-brainer.

Good question. As I understand it there are sections being reserved for Gay Day but I don't know where they're located. Perhaps scottie knows. But seeing as they're in the 500/600 level, binoculars will be helpful.

See above posts -- if you want any tickets as part of the Outsports contingent just post here or e-mail me. We'll work on the whole gathering -- where to meet before the game to distribute tickets, perhaps arranging a pre-game meal if there's time and interest -- once game day draws near.

I e-mailed scottie, who's still busy traveling due to work but hopes to catch up on this board soon. He says they're on the 3rd base side, somewhere between 3rd base and the left field bullpen. The idea was to be able to look into the Phillies' dugout but still see the big Phanavision screen in centerfield.

But fear not, sometime between sept and dec PF will make his return once again to the great commonwealth of PA, bleeding iggle green. Then partake in some parking lot drinking, eat about a dozen cheese steaks, and actually have some good pizza.

PF can take care of that with just one minivan and a bull horn...
to the left you will see that bell everyone talks about...
looking up now folks you see willy p. notice how the taller buildings around him have cursed the city for many many years now.
To the right now we see the ever popular pat's cheesesteak stand. Yes, that is andy reid ordering 5 of them and holding up the line.
Right now we are diving over the walt whit bridge... the skid marks you see are Larry Brown's limo taking him out of town.
Everyone fasten their seat belts.. if we hurry we can see Iverson and his posse cruising in S philly, but we gotta hurry before the shooting starts.
Welcome to the Vet everyone... Walking up, please notice the stained concrete. Typically this is only seen during football season, as the fans are puking on the way out. Over the years this have become increasingly harder to clean up. But fear not, you'll notice a much cleaner Linc off in the distance. We'll conclude this tour-o-philly with the turf of the vet. Notice the dinks and waves in the turf. Most people think this is caused by poor upkeep and just an old stadium.. when, in fact, most of the dinks are cause by mcnabb's special passes, the skip pass off the ground to the TE.
