You know, I can't say I'm totally shocked by this news, the way I would be if it were, say, Nadal.

What's totally worth an eyeroll rolleyes.gif is his response to the publication of the news:

Richard Gasquet has confirmed that he failed a drugs test for cocaine at Miami, also saying that his 'B' sample has been tested and returned the same result.

"I want to prove my innocence and will explain myself at an appropriate time," he said in a statement.

Look at the exact wording. "..prove my innocence.."? What, did the cocaine somehow get into your system without your knowledge or consent, Reeeeshard?? Did one of your ATP Tourmates spike your Evian with a few lines to get you outta the locker room because you were absolutely decimating your rivals every week, racking up numerous titles?

This penchant for victimhood when you self destruct is nauseating, especially coming form a multimillionaire athlete like Gasquet. Memo to Reeshard: whatever public statement you make, your best bet is to fully confess you screwed up your entire career, and you did it voluntarily. If you set about to try to "prove your innocence", as though you yourself had no complicity in regard to cocaine being in your system to the extent two positve tests came back, then you'll look like a bigger fool than you already do.

I really want to believe that this isn't true, not because I'm a Gasquet fan (with that backhand and that accent, I don't know which one is prettier, how can you not be a Gasquet fan?), but because I hate to see someone with so much going for them be so incredibly stupid. A recent article about Serena's complaints about the testing system opened my eyes up to just how invasive the procedures are. If a player knows that he's basically "on call" at almost any time, on a moment's notice, to give a drug test, what kind of merde-for-brains is Gasquet if he did indeed snort coke? "Just a couple of eensy-weensy lines won't hurt, n'est-ce pas?"

Maybe he's a victim of air pollution.

I thought the two-year suspension for Hingis was ridiculous, and the same goes for Gasquet. Yeah, it's pretty dumb to be coking it up in the middle of a tournament, but it's not exactly performance-enhancing, to say the least. A few months' slap on the wrist is more like it for recreational drugs, in my opinion. At least he won't have to try to 'shield' his reputation anymore and can come out in peace, already. wink.gif

Well Gasquet has had the suspension lifted. He claimed that he tested positive after kissing a girl who had done coke and the ITF apparently believed him. So his excuse was two-fold...to prove he didn't do drugs and to try and squelch those pesky gay rumors.
JC
Well, after that experience, he shouldn't be kissing girls anymore. Perhaps he should sing a song "I kissed a girl, I got busted."

Not to sound crude but many of us who have...ahem...dabbled w/ the stuff knows that it is often applied on many human orifices for various reasons. ohmy.gif huh.gif

...So who knows. I'm no doctor so I can't affirm that it can get into one's system via another person's orifice(s).

Maybe Hingis was the "mystery girl" (a.k.a., the woman known as "Pamela") he was kissing? ohmy.gif
