The
International Gay Bowling Organization lists several in northern Virginia and southern Maryland. None listed in Delaware, though...

How many of you guys bowl in a gay league? My partner and I have been in an every-other-Friday league for the past few years, and really enjoy it. We and our teammates are veeerrry bad bowlers (115-120 averages, all four of us), but the whole league is all about having fun and socializing. And drinking. Lots. Lots of drinking. We have the lowest average in the leauge, but thanks to 80% handicapping we finished next-to-last. Woohoo!
There are at least 4 gay leagues just out here in the 'burbs where we live, so I would guess there must be several leagues in bigger cities.
I've been bowling in gay leagues here in the Twin Cities for the six winters I've lived here. Alot of fun. I jumped in head first, becoming the co-director of IGBO(see above)'s Mid-Year tournament in 2000.
Now, after recovery from both burnout and a broken leg, I've backed off a bit. I still bowl, but prefer to -just bowl-. I used to have a 178 average at one point, now I'm in the 150s.
Maxallen, I see you're in Kansas City. Did you bowl MAKIT this year? I was there, always a good time. (I even won some money! Woohoo!)

I started bowling last year in a gay suburban league just for fun. I went to a couple of tournaments with my bowling partners and really enjoyed them. It's a relaxing activity for me which is a diversion from running or working out.

kj, no we weren't at the tournament, but will check it out next year. Since we're not good bowlers, we didn't really pay attention to the announcements about tournaments. Wasn't MAKIT held in *egads* Raytown, MO? eek! wink (We sorta make fun of Raytown here in KC. It was, after all, the home of "Mama's Family".) If it was on the Kansas side, the largest bowling alley which hosts many gay leagues is about three blocks from my house.
The cool thing about most tournaments is that they're handicap-based tourneys. So even low-average bowlers can come into a tournament and do well if they bowl above their averages. (And, besides, tourneys are a big excuse to party.

)
The lanes were Northland AMF, on Vivian, just north of the 29/35 split. I think that's North Kansas City, but it could just be Kansas City. The hotel was down by the Plaza, on Main.
MAKIT 2003 was the first tournament I'd done in two and a half years. I'd like to get back into doing a few more tournaments, they're fun.
