Neil Patrick Harris will be the host of this year's Tony Awards, the gayest night on TV.
This year's nominees include: Billy Elliot (Elton John musical based on the film), gay icons Liza Minelli and Dolly Parton (for her show 9 to 5), and the Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Jerry Herman (Mame, La Cage aux Folles).

The Tony Awards are running against the Lakers-Magic game. What is a person supposed to do? (And no, I don't want to tape one and watch it later.) I suppose I'll favour the Tonys in my channel flipping since the Tonys is a one night event and it's only game 2 of the NBA finals.

Oh my god I feel SUPER DUPER GAY after watching that opening.
I LOVEd that opening - it started the show off on a high night. But could somebody please taze(with a z) Liza Minelli? Did sjhe really have to inject herself front and center with the "hair" cast? The big question about her at Casa de Munson was "booze or pills?"

Re: Next to Normal. I see a lot of people raving about that show on the Broadway message boards, but the clips I've seen haven't done anything for me. I'm going to order the cast album anyways. It was funny that they had Carrie Fisher introduce that show.
Matt Cavanaugh plays Tony in the West Side Story revival. He was also in the Grey Gardens musical. I find his voice kind of weird. The Globe's theatre critic says the Stratford Festival production of WSS is better than the Broadway one.
I liked that Dulock number from Shrek. It seemed like Christopher Sieber was channelling Paul Lynde.
Hair looked good, too. I love Gavin Creel. He seems like just the nicest guy.

I know Ray, I just really like Liza and it seems like she is condemned to destroy herself just like her wonderful mother did. What a legacy.
I agree 100% Eddie. But she's an adult w/ choices. She could have chosen to follow a different path than her mom's. Or @ least cleaned herself up by now & gotten some therapy. Obviously her childhood (& her sibling's, I believe she only has 1 sis, no?) has gravely affected her persona. But there IS a way to conquer such demons.
By the way,Neil Patrick Harris was a brilliant host! I never thought anyone could do as well as my make-believe husband Hugh Jackman!
According to Wikipedia Liza is 63 now and she's outlived her mother by 16 years. I don't know that she's destroying herself. I didn't watch the show and I haven't really seen her lately, but it wouldn't surprise me if people were exaggerating her behavior a bit just to have fun.
Being whacked out and hanging by a thread is how she copes with life straight or sober from what I've seen in recent years.
