Wimbledon

The most interesting thing so far is that for the first time in ? years, they will not be going entirely with the computer on the women's side. Sharapova has been given the #24 seed. I can't argue with that, but I don't see why they can't move Venus to #1 seed when Safina has never made it out of the 3rd round here.

JC, where did you find the draw? I have not been able to locate it.

The draw isn't out...just the seedings. I personally think its bullshit for Sharapova to be bumped up to 24 and not bump Venus up to #1 seed and drop Safina to third seed. What the hell has Safina done on grass? Sharapova won it one year and hasn't been back to a final since. Plus, she's had some early losses the past few years there. So I don't agree with it. That has everything to do with them not wanting blondie to get knocked out by a top seed in the first round or two.

To be fair, I just glanced back at Venus's 2007 Wimbledon. She was ranked 31, but seeded #23, so maybe Wimbledon is okay with bumping someone up to just outside the top 20. Anyway, I agree, the sisters should be seeded #1 and #2, since they got to the finals last year and they are both in the top 3 anyway. It would be a bummer to have them face each other in a semifinal.

I would def give Venus the #1 and am surprised they didn't go there because Venus didn't do better at the French... but she should be the #1.

the bigger question for me would have been whether to 1) put Serena ahead of Safina ( I wouldn't only because it may be unfair to change the ordinals or rankings just to ensure Venus/Serena only meet in the finals which I think players may bitch about- if you leave Serena as 3, you stil have the coin toss where they could meet in the semis, which may make it more fair), and 2) Do you put Kuznetsova ahead of Dementieva and flip the 4/5, which before the grass season I would have said yes, but considering the loss of Kuz to Wozniak of Canada on grass a 0, 3 loss- I say Hell NO! lol

BUt I guess 1) Venus, 2) Serena, 3) Safina, 4) Kuznetsova would be my top 4 seeds.... I would consider moving up Bartol 1 or 2, Zheng Jie up some notches, and maybe Mauresmo...

The only reason Sharapova got bumped is because they feared a draw where Sharapova could face a Williams or other top seed too early.

Just a thought...could we possibly do separate threads for the men and the women like we do for all the Slams? Makes it much easier to follow.
