I have a online friend who want to participate at the Gay Games VIII. He lives near Oklahoma City. Does anyone know if there are any "Team Oklahoma" type sports organizations in this state?

Searched online, but only found a bowling org and a rodeo club.

My friend wants to connect with a basketball team.

Thanks,

Gee, it would seem there are NO gay athletes in Oklahoma.

Or at least none that read the site.

Maybe he could contact the bowling or rodeo groups and see if they know of any other sports groups. Or possibly a team from another area needs a player?

You might also want your friend to contact the NGBA. I know that a number of teams from the USA are heading to Cologne and most, if not all, are associated with this group. I am sure there will be a team or two looking for another person. Their website is http://www.ngbaus.com

Hello,

He should sign up for the Cologne newsletter and the Gay Games Participate! Newsletter. These come out approximately monthly, depending on the year. This year will be monthly, because we are almost a year away from 2010 Cologne Gay Games.

Cologne can also add him to an international team that is short one player.

He can also be a community organizer!

Work locally. We can provide you with free marketing materials. http://www.gaygames.com/en/marketing/
There are people in every state that will participate. The question is finding a way to connect the group locally to work together in preparations. I recommend you create a new facebook account for Team Oklahoma, and if possible a blog for Team Oklahoma. Both of these are zero cost and you can edit and create your own content and build a following. You do not have to be a technical wiz to create a blog. Google offers it for free.

Do you want a web site name? It is pretty easy and cheap.
If you wish to spend $50 per year, you could get a cheap web host and buy
http://www.LGBTsportsOklahoma.org
or http://www.LGBTsportsOK.org
There are many domain names still open. http://www.networksolutions.org.

I would create the site using blogger.com or typepad.com. These are all free or nearly free and you can allow others to post to pieces of your blog web site, so you can share the work of updating it. You can point your blog to the new .org name and your web site is live, but you edit and create with the blogware site like google offers. You just click publish and put in the .org name you buy and it updates your site.

Be sure to create a new gmail or live.com email address just for this work. You do not want to mix up your personal mail with volunteer mail.

Team Oregon has quickly put together a web site running on blogware. They are a great example of working quickly to get communicating.

Finally. I repeat. Sign up for Participate! Newsletter. . This will get him up to date and help.
