Seeking info on TWO activities in Hollywood/L.A. area: brisk walking/jogging AND hiking. I powerwalk. Any loyal, easygoing yet serious folk available to do these with? Presently $$less, so formal groups that charge are out of the question--unless some of you know of those who keep it LOCAL, CHEAP and simple.

Gay community centers are starting to do this (I know they do in Michigan, at least.).

Put ads in the paper, interview for safety and start that way if there isn't (already) a walkers group in your area. At least, you should be able to find some people who would want to call you once a week to check your progress (mutual development?).

Hey there, Blue...thanks for the reply. Your suggestion is noted--and already tried. Have been at this for a couple of YEARS now actually and have been open to either gender (to walk with). Have even tried an online service called "www.buddyup.com" to find local individuals. Not making much headway so far. Is why I'm trying Outsports now. I can get folks on the phone or thru email talking about getting together, but they either bow out at the last minute or do not show up. Wonder what the problem is...I tell them I am seeing the SSI people about funding the hump-removal surgery for my back and the several huge wens on my neck, but (sheesh) I guess they don't want to take a chance.

Trust me, sales and marketing, even when it comes to something as simple as walking, getting a glass of wine, or going to a movie with (no pressure) can be a big chore.

Keep at it, listen for cues (in case you're not presenting it correctly), try not to commit them before they get started, and KEEP AT IT!
