There has to be more to this story than meets the eye. Palin resigns half way through her first term as Governor of Alaska so she has more freedom to fight for the issues of Alaska from the outside. WTF??
This is a person who was knocked for lack of experience during the 2008 Campagn and by all accounts wants the 2012 nomination (2016 would have seemed more realistic). I get that she will be able to spend time out of state shoring up her base in the lower 48 and raising money and sure she will have a book to plug soon, but it still looks like she is running away from having to deal with Alaskas issues during a troubled economy. Either that or there are ethical or personal issues about to blow up and she wanted out before the shit hit the fan.
This will either prove to be an strategically brilliant decision of one of the biggest political missteps ever.

Possibly, but I'll never be convinced she can win a national election in 2012 anyway. WHO is telling her she can?
It crossed my mind that a scandal was forthcoming, but Alaska is not making money on oil from what I understand, so she won't get to write the taxpayers checks. I don't see her popularity rising in AK, but I can see it going down the more time she spends time in the lower 48 and the usual strange stories about her continue to flow. She cannot afford to lose the Gov's election if she has higher aspirations.
I think you might be spot on that she's running from dealing with the economy so she can bash her future opponents who ARE dealing with it. She's going to try the "it's the economy stupid" route since "I can see Russia from my house" was epic fail. Whatever, I can only dream that this would make us see less of her, but I guess it will be just the opposite. Maybe she's preggers with Gov. Sandford's lovechild?

Colin Powell may be the closest thing left to a credible candidate for the Republicans in 2012, and he seems to be hinting at some interest with his recent criticism of the high level of spending and budget deficits being exacerbated by the stimulus spending of the Obama administration.
He is also taking on the time-honored advantage of the unincumbent of not proposing a detailed credible alternative.
I never saw Palin getting beyond her base of a plurality of the remaining Republican party. Several others are self-destructing in office (Ensign, Sanford) so being out of office seems to be safer in these hard economic times.
If Palin is really interested in higher office, I do not think being out of office will help in her case. This technically poorly done speech alone suggests that she does not have the composure, or the people around her, necessary to mount a national campaign.

On the heels of the Sanford scndal and the fact that for several days he just couldn't shut his mouth, perhaps Palin is one of the women with whom he was "inapprorite"...the nights get awfully lonely at those Governor conventions. Maybe even Sanford is Tripp's baby daddy! Come on, how cool would THAT be!!!
Or maybe, just maybe, she's off to start up some lunatic fringe militia group hell bent on secession. The US military has to invade Alaska and she is cut down is a deadly battle. Come on, how cool would THAT be!!!
Imagining is fun!

LOL Goerge!...
Well, whatever her intentions are/were
she surely has shocked those closest to her. Obviously, this decision was--irresponsibily--made w/out the advice from her political advisers. I agree w/ the quotes below:
QUOTE
But the fact that Palin, 45, will vacate her elected post without finishing the four-year term -- which would have bolstered a political resume already thin enough that it hampered her 2008 bid for vice president -- led some analysts to suggest that she had badly damaged herself, perhaps irretrievably.
"I always thought after the race what she needed to do was go back to Alaska and be substantive, show she's got a grasp of government and work for the good of the folks back home. This seems to be the exact opposite," said Stuart Rothenberg, an independent campaign analyst in Washington. "This makes her subject to the criticism that for whatever reason -- she gets tired, bored, criticized too much -- she just walks away."

Me too. This was too strange, too sudden, especially from someone who craves the political spotlight. Something must really be rotten behind the scenes, and apparently, it was about to bite her. I wonder if she thought her timing, right before a holiday, would have somehow lessened the impact.

Last September, I labeled Sarah Palin a "domestic terrorist".
I Had a Dream last night (please forgive for the plagiarism MLK

) while sleepwalking and watching the fireworks celebrating the 4th of July, 2009. In this dream an equation appeared to me: "2009-1776 = 233". Subsequently another occured: "2+3+3 = 8". This was followed by an epiphany! The number "8" is lucky in China. That's why they started the Beijing Olympics on 08/08/2008 (Which by the way is the same in Europe and the USA.) All of this obviously means that China took over the USA on that date. Since the first Chinese invasion of the North American continent came by way of the Berring Strait from Asia through Alaska, they obviously have been planning this for a long time. Therefore Sarah Palin is actually an agent of the Chinese government planted in Alaska several thousand years ago to harp about Russia and distract us from the coming YELLOW PERIL!!!

I think the problem is not that she didn't have a written speech but that she always improvises no matter what she has written in front of her. It doesn't matter whether she writes it or someone else does. She does things based on faith. Not a bad idea perhaps if your political "instincts" are good. But apparently Palin's instincts are not.

The other night, after the announcement, I was channel surfing on cable tv. I heard somebody say that in recent weeks, there have been some top level resignations at the Alaska Health Dept. The rssignations were due to the Govs. way outside the mainstream views on social issues. When I heard that I tried to find the station where it might have come from and could not.
I have some friends who just came back from an Alaskan cruise. They said there was some rumble, and faint discussion, on Alaska TV about the possibility of banning birth control in Alaska.
In any event, I absolutely think more will come out sooner rather than later.

She is a buffoon but many of those types are capable of scheming and plotting. Lets hope that she ends up the next Republican prez candidate. It will insure that President Obama is reelected. Probably because at this stage of the game its all about appealing to the base and not to the wider electorate (much the the GOP's ultimate detrimate). There aren't that many recognizable names around to vote for: Romney, Huckabee and Gingrich come to mind. I dont think you will see any of them at the top of the ballot in 2012.

I do have to admit I will miss your mental-inferior followers...they put on quite a show of their own. Glad to know the gene pool of American is still pretty shallow. Just like you! Now go be a good girl and raise your family. If you don't want them in the spotlight, perhaps you shouldn't have had them come up on a very well-lit stage during the Republican National Convention. Darn those t.v. cameras...they broadcast everything! Oh, and lastly, I seriously doubt you'll be able to land on a PTA committee, let alone hold any future political office. As for Sarah, I saw most of her farewell speech. I just wish there had been subtitles for those of us who speak English and not Hockey Mom. I mean, what the hell what she talking about? If Miz Palin were a serious candidate for effective world leader she would be speaking out against the oppression of women in the countries we depend on for oil.
But then that would expose the fact her fundamental religiosity doesn't work as social reform anywhere.
Or why doesn't she try to sell her abstinence-only policies to those women in Guinea lying on their backs with their legs in the air being raped in the mud of a stadium in broad daylight?
Oh, what am I thinking? Obviously this is all Obama's faught for going to a muslim country and asking the muslim world to stop forcing women to wear veils.
So she probably considers all of the increasingly visible oppression to be his fault.

Well at least it would get her to talk about the subject. I for one am sick of suffering with Levi's Johnson.
