As in years past, I will be "assisting" my friend with his Emmy ballot this year and I'll post later who I he votes for.
Ok some thoughts....Family Guy? All those years they wouldn't allow The Simpsons or South Park to be considered and they finally allow animated shows to reward Family Guy? Well at least it bumped Two and a Half Men. 30 Rock and the Office are the only worthy shows IMO.
Yea for Sarah Silverman...she doesn't have a prayer of winning but nice to see her on the list. Overall though the nominations in the Comedy categories show how far comedy has fallen on TV. And the Academy is clearly way over Desperate Housewives.
Now for my rant...how the hell do they completely overlook The Sheild? As much as I enjoy Damages, if any FX show deserved a Best Drama nod it's The Sheild. They finally figure out a way to get James Spader out of the Best Actor race and they can't squeeze in Michael Chiklis? And they add a sixth nominee and they give it to that guy from The Mentalist? Come on! And no Walton Goggins in Supporting Actor but TWO guys from the ridiculous Boston Legal? The final season of The Sheild was one of the best final season of any show and those two guys rocked it. Glad to see Micahel Emerson from Lst in the Supporting race but where's Elizabeth Mitchell?
And January Jones from Mad Men should be up for Best Actress over Sally Field, Kyra Sedgewick and/or Mariska Hargitay.
Great to see The Amazing Race, Phil Keoghan, Kathy Griffin, John Stewart and Stephen Colbert all in the running. But enough of Monk and Entourage though it's great that major twatwaffle/douchenozzle Jeremy Piven is FINALLY not nominated.
Other irritating yet expected snubs....nothing for Friday Night Lights or Battlestar Galactica.

A'ight! Sheesh!
...& what about
Bones? I love that show. They have had some amazing episodes. & I love all of the characters. Plus, I figured that you George would also love (& be rooting for) the former
Buffy-hunk
David Boreanaz.

Yeah I never got in to Bones as much as I love me some David Boreanaz. I think when it first came on it was opposite something I liked and I was still wroking nights then so I had to choose one show.

I'm with you on the actors being nominated though I think Marcia Gay Harden had a strong case as well. But this season's story wasn't nearly as entertaining as season 1 and I would rather have seen The Shield get nominated. The final season was just so great.
That guy nominated for 'The Big Bang Theory' is the whole show. He owns every scene he's in. Glad to see him nominated.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog was nominated. Best musical of the year. Joss might win his first emmy!

I read about this being nominated and I was wondering, on what TV network was it aired? None, as far as I know, as it was posted online. So how is it eligible for an Emmy?

I was ecstatic to see Jim Parsons nominated for Big Bang Theory...The show should have been nominated too.
But what happened to "24'? This past season topped, I thought, season 5, which won the Best Drama Emmy.
Dissappointed that "Friday Night Lights" still doesn't get any respect.

Okay so here is who my friend voted for with a whole lot of guidance from me! Our His votes and my comments in BOLD.
BEST COMEDY SERIES
Entourage
Family Guy
Flight of the Conchords
How I Met Your Mother
The Office
30 Rock
Weeds
30 Rock lost a small step from the first two seasons but it's still the best of this crop. Neither of us is familiar with Flight of the Conchords but I've seen clips here and there and it's not my cup of tea. And Family Guy? Ugh!
BEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Steve Carell, The Office
Jemaine Clement, Flight of th Conchords
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Tony Shalhoub, Monk
Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half Men
Alec Baldwin is just so great in this part but Steve Carell was brilliant this year. I don't watch Big Bang Theory but he is really good...just not as good as Baldwin or Carell.
BEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Christina Applegate, Samantha Who?
Toni Collette, United States of Tara
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The New Adventures of Old Christine
Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Mary-Louise Parker, Weeds
Sarah Silverman, The Sarah Silverman Program
Really wanted to vote for Sarah Silverman but figured it was a wasted vote. Plus Tina Fey is just so amazing.
SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Jon Cryer, Two and a Half Men
Kevin Dillon, Entourage
Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother
Jack McBrayer, 30 Rock
Tracy Morgan, 30 Rock
Rainn Wilson, The Office
I know people love Neil Patrick harris and HIMYM but I think it's kind of lame. Plus he's more of a lead to me. McBrayer is hilarious as Kenneth the Page.
SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Kristin Chenoweth, Pushing Daisies
Jane Krakowski, 30 Rock
Elizabeth Perkins, Weeds
Amy Poehler, Saturday Night Live
Kristin Wiig, Saturday Night Live
Vanessa Williams, Ugly Betty
Amy Poehler should have won last year. My pick was Elizabeth Perkins who has been just about the best thing on Weeds but my friend pushed hard for Vanessa Willams and it is his ballot after all! And she is great in the part.
GUEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Alan Alda, 30 Rock
Beau Bridges, Desperate Housewives
Jon Hamm, 30 Rock
Steve Martin, 30 Rock
Justin Timberlake, Saturday Night Live
Torn between Hamm and Steve Martin...Martin's epsiode was more memorable.
GUEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Jennifer Aniston, 30 Rock
Christine Baranski, The Big Bang Theory
Tina Fey, Saturday Night Live
Gena Rowlands, Monk
Elaine Stritch, 30 Rock
Betty White, My Name Is Earl
Alot of great nominees but Fey's Sarah Palin was so great.
DRAMA:
BEST DRAMA SERIES
Big Love
Breaking Bad
Damages
Dexter
House
Lost
Mad Men
My friend and I were were both handing the Emmy to The Shield and it didn't even get nominated. Nobody can convince me that House or Damages were better last season. We discussed Big Love, Lost and Mad Men and Mad Men came out on top for us.
BEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Simon Baker, The Mentalist
Gabriel Byrne, In Treatment
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Hugh Laurie, House
This should have been Michael Chiklis' Emmy for The Shield. But out fo the nominees Hall was most worthy tous.
BEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Glenn Close, Damages
Sally Field, Brothers & Sisters
Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: SVU
Holly Hunter, Saving Grace
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer
Moss was so great as Peggy. The other nominees are really tired. Glenn Close is great in Damages but the season was kind of ridiculous IMO.
SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Christian Clemenson, Boston Legal
Michael Emerson, Lost
William Hurt, Damages
Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad
William Shatner, Boston Legal
John Slattery, Mad Men
It's incomprehensible to me that they can give TWO nominations to guys from Boston 'effin Legal and overlook Walton Goggins from The Shield. It's the most egregious oversight this year IMO. Micahel Emerson should have won last year but he's still terrific as Ben.
SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Rose Byrne, Damages
Hope Davis, In Treatment
Cherry Jones, In Treatment
Sandra Oh, Grey's Anatomy
Dianne Wiest, In Treatment
Chandra Wilson, Grey's Anatomy
I fell aslepp just reading this list of nominees. Plus my friend has worked with Wiest and just loves her.
GUEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Edward Asner, CSI: NY
Ted Danson, Damages
Ernest Borgnine, ER
Michael J. Fox, Rescue Me
Jimmy Smits, Dexter
Not sure how Smits qualifies as a Guest Actor when he was in the entire season so we eliminated him. There's no way Michael J Fox can lose this and he was pretty good in the part.
GUEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Brenda Blethyn, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
Carol Burnett, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
Ellen Burstyn, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
Sharon Lawrence, Grey's Anatomy
CCH Pounder, The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency
Since she never won for The Shield we tossed her a bone here.
REALITY:
REALITY COMPETITION PROGRAM
The Amazing Race
American Idol
Dancing With The Stars
Project Runway
Top Chef
Still the best of the bunch.
HOST FOR A REALITY OR REALITY-COMPETITION PROGRAM
Tom Bergeron, Dancing With the Stars
Phil Keoghan, The Amazing Race
Heidi Klum, Project Runway
Padma Lakshmi (Host) and Tom Colicchio (Co-Host), Top Chef
Jeff Probst, Survivor
Ryan Seacrest, American Idol
Only Jeff Probst is even close to Phil.
REALITY SERIES
Antiques Roadshow
Dirty Jobs

Really SC? I thought he did a great job, though I suppose after last year's debacle with the Reality Host nominees hosting, a donkey and a can of corn could have co-hosted and it would have been better than last year. Seriously though I thought Harris was prety good...a solid B+.
I loved some of the winners but there were a couple of real head-scratchers. Jon Cryer for Two and a Half Men? Really? I have to assume the other superior nominees cancelled each other out enabling him to sneak in and win. And I'm not sure how he's a supporting actor while Charlie Sheen is a lead. His acceptance speech was funnier than anything ever on that show.
I've never seen the show but I was really surprised Toni Collette won. She's a terrific actress in other things I've seen and I hear she's great on her show though.
Really glad 30 Rock repeated and was really glad Michael Emerson won for Lost. Can't deny Glenn Close is terrific on Damages but last season her character had some really ridiculous material. I would rather Elizabeth Moss had won but I'm just glad it wasn't Sally Field or Mariska Hargitay or Holly Hunter.
Ricky Gervais and Jimmy Fallon were great presenters. Gervais should present at every awards show.

I liked the opening act/song he did. But after when he tried to be funny it seemed forced & not "him," so to speak. & the laughs by the audience also seemed forced at times cuz, imho, they were being "nice."
...I did enjoy watching it, tho, cuz of the winners & stuff.
Edit:
Btw, was it my imagination or did Jon Hamm seemed to become uncomfortable when Neil threw a compliment @ him during the opening song?...
Never mind.
Went back & watched it. Jon's reaction seemed more about "turning red" rather than being uncomfortable (it starts around 1:50 into the video).
