The man was a witness to some amazing history. The CBS Evening News was the only news on in my house as a kid. And I remember his funny appearance on the Mary Tyler Moore Show too!

For most of us that grew up in the 60s and 70s, it was the only way to get the news...

Not surprising given the recent reports on his health. Man they are droppin like flies lately. You can't even use the death comes in 3's phrase anymore. We're gonna have to change it to death comes in 6's or somethin the way the deaths have been rollin in. I'm only 31 so was not around during the W.C. era, but I've seen enough footage and read enough to know about his impact on the news.

And that's the way it is, Saturday, July 18.

Very nice article!

QUOTE
Network news anchors still aim for that mix of eloquence and authority that Cronkite embodied, but they compete, at a disadvantage, with the noise of an ascendant punditocracy and the mountain-from-molehill nattering of cable news organizations that live on crises -- it's not the old voice of reassuring honesty that they cultivate, but one of perpetual anxiety. There are many more rooms in the mansion that is television news nowadays, but they have grown proportionately smaller; they are no longer fit for giants.

RIP to Mr. Cronkite. A true icon. Shalom and L'Chaim. smile.gif
