I see alot of hits on my other thread so maybe this one will get some posts going. If you were running the NCAA and your word was law, what would you change? A 16 team playoff or some other structured playoff sytem? ..conference reallignments, ....Miami, Va Tech and BC go back to the Big East? Pay student athletes a small salary concidering the money they bring in for their respective schools?

My dearest Pensa (And how lucky it is that those last two letters of your nickname are not in reverse order!)
I was overjoyed to read your posting with its intriguing query! And the answer, mon cher, immediately leapt to my lips, or in this case, to my fingertips on the keyboard---
My First Command: I'd immediately require all college teams, yes even down to Division III teams, to wear the same tantalizingly translucent white pants as worn by those stunning Texas Longhorns!
My Second Command: Compression shorts are herewith banned, and all football players must wear jockstraps.

I'm still weighing which is the greater invention, those pants or high-def television! Well, suffice to say that the two in combination are truly inspirational.

Must dash, now, Dear One. Those Italian workmen, well-set-up though they might be, require my constant supervision while they try to find the leak in the pipes from the Southern gin vats to my humble manse.
Oh, I can't wait to see what the other Outsporters will come up with for their preferred changes!
TTFN,
SFD

Preach it, SFDutch! laugh.gif

I'd ban polling until halfway through the season and get rid of conference championship games. But those things are much less important than the white pants.

The only thing I would change is making sure that hits like this are quite common (break his f**king neck!): tongue.gif

I would tweak the conferences slightly, and have a 16 team playoff system, with the winner of one conference playing the winner of another, etc...maybe have 3-4 2nd place teams invited...
this current system that favors the traditional football powers sucks.

I agree totally with your last statement. And Boomer stated that he would not have the rankings out until midway through the season. Preseason rankings set up teams that did not finish well the previous season at a disadvantage. In a track race, the runners are set up to where the inside runner is furtherest back and the outside runner is a bit ahead. This ensures that given the shape of the track that the runners are competing on a somewhat level playing field. In college football it seems that the traditional powers are on the inside track and in addition placed AHEAD of everyone else.

I would delay the Top 25 rankings for 3 maybe 4 games into the season. I would also want a small change in the allignment of conferences:

1. The Big East breaks up and the football schools form an All-Sports Big East Conference- Should D1-AA football programs, such as Georgetown or 'Nova, decide to move up in order to be included into this new conference so much the better. Notre Dame could also join since they are a member of the Big East in all sports but football. But it is doubtful Irish football will join any conference at all.

2. The Big East and ACC bury the hatchet and trade- I would want Boston College to be traded for South Florida for a number of reasons but it just makes more sense this way.

3. Penn State comes home- I would move Penn Satte to the new Big East. It was Joe Pa after all that saw the need for a stong football conference in the northeast. Based on number one happening, I think this would be a good move for Penn State. Paterno was pushing the Big Ten/Eleven for expansion earlier this summer which would lead to a CCG but Delaney seems to not want any of it.

Completely agree on Penn State returning to its eastern roots. We have never been all that welcomed into the Big 10, and, arguably, it hasn't been all that great for Penn State football. We lost our traditional rivals and ceded a good portion of our recruiting grounds.

Being a Penn Stater in the Big Ten feels almost like being the person who's staying at a 5-star hotel and paying for it with frequent flyer miles. They're grudgingly glad that you're there, but you never really get the same treatment as the paying guests.

Why not quite pissing around and just make tertiary education free for all?

Take some of the profit motive out of amateur sports for institutions of learning with a public system, for all who qualify, that supplements the private ones that are subsidized by taxes anyhow.

Even post-secondary trade schools could be included. That should pick up a lot of those hunks more interested in nuts and bolts than keyboards and frats. Anyone who plays by the rules should have chance to play the game.

And yes, the unis should be as translucent as possible, notwithstanding appropriate protective padding.

PennState4Ever, glad you like the idea. I also wonder how traveling from the middle of PA wears on the budget when you have to go to Minneapolis, Iowa City or Madison all the time when it seems more cost effective to stay in the northeast.

So how do you like this lineup:

Boston College
Connecticut
Rutgers
Syracuse
Penn State
Pittsburgh
West Virginia
Louisville
Cincinnati

...and I would like a 10th school Notre Dame or a 1-AA to move up to 1-A (Georgetown, UMass, or Delaware)

ACC
Florida State
NC State
South Florida
Clemson
Wake Forest
Maryland

Miami
North Carolina
Duke
Virginia Tech
Virginia
Georgia Tech
