Wow that was one nasty storm that rolled through all of Ontario yesterday. We can have some nasty thunderstorms roll through and a few times a year we get tornado watches or warnings - and every once in a while we get hit with some tornados usually in southwest Ontario - but tornados hit in three of four different areas of Ontario including Vaughan one of Toronto's northern burbs.

Where I was downtown - still in my office - it got pitch black and the rain and wind and lightning was scary. Then it got sort of greenish looking for a few minutes too. Fortunately no tornados downtown but not so lucky elsewhere. Some areas of Toronto although not in a tornados path still had flooding and trees knocked down - many without power for 12 hours or more. reach them

Then I had a bit of an uneasy night because some of the news reports mentioned a reported tornado on Lake Nippising - which is where one of my sisters owns a fishing/cottage resort with her husband. And all attempts to
reach them last night by phone did not work as calls did not go through. Fortunately I reached my sister this morning and the tornado was a few miles away from their place and nobody in the area was hurt.

Actually considering all the damage - and the fact we are not used to tornados and tend not to take the warnings seriously - there was only one death. Sadly that was an 11 year old boy.

And now this weekend Atlantic Canada is bracing for Hurricane Bill. Whacky and wild weather for these parts.

Here are just a couple of links to the stories and pictures here.

My partner and I moved a few months ago to Toronto from Ottawa. I was off on Thursday and I decided not to go out and stay home instead. Talk about following your instincts! I was actually having a nap when I heard all that wind, thunder and rain coming. Though I've experienced a few hurricanes living in the Caribbean, this was my first tornado ever, so I didn't have a clue as to what was happening. It came and went in about ten minutes or maybe less, at least where we live, which is borderline central/north Toronto, I guess (Yonge and Lawrence).

So sad about the kid who died. A kid or two were struck by lightning a week and a half ago. Scary.
