Is that a verb? Well, I guess it is now.

Liberty Mountain, the Aspen of Adams County, Pennsylvania, is the closest ski area to DC. I was there last Saturday night, and I think the snow there is about as good as it is ever going to get. Several events happening at Liberty Mountain over the next few weeks may be of interest to Outsports listers living near DC. If not, you'll get over it.

Numero uno, the luging, which happens on Saturday and Sunday, February 5 and 6.

The normal night ticket at Liberty is $31, and it's good from 5 p.m until 10 p.m. I can tell you that renting is no bargain. You're better off renting from a local shop than at Liberty.

The basic website for events at Liberty is Liberty Mountain Resort Calendar of Events 2004-05. There are some that I omitted.

Disclaimer: I do not work for Liberty, nor do I have any stake in whether you go there or not. I just thought maybe someone would be interested. You don't have to be good to enjoy winter activities. I'm completely incompetent, and they still took my money.

Two other nearby areas share common ownership with Liberty.

I think luging looks like an amzing amount of fun. When I was a kid I loved sledding and tobaganing and we'd build ramps and courses and such. So I imagine the luge would be an incredible thrill.

I did the luge run that was built for the SLC 2002 winter games prior to the games. It was pretty fun. I also did the bobsled which was really cool.

You don't go nearly as fast as the athletes who compete in these sports, but layin on a little sled and going fairly fast was quite the adrenalin rush!

I would do it again in a heartbeat! I highly recommend it!
