Full Version: Unassisted Triple Play

Today in the game between the Phillies and the Mets Eric Bruntlett who was playing in place of Chase Utley made an unassisted triple play to end the game. Even though 15 of these have been made in MLB, it was the first time in history it was done to end a game.

Irony is when Jeff Francouer robbed Eric Bruntlett of a triple only to have Eric rob him back with a triple play.

It was an interesting play! Would have preferred to see Bruntlett screw it up! mad.gif

actually, the 2nd time to end the game and 15th overall.

jerry calling for a double steal was stupid.

I was at the game. The Mets are not allowed to engage in heart-stomping, gizzard-shredding, Oedipal-gouging sadism unless I am in in the house (ie, I was at the last two season finales). The TP took a good ten seconds to sink in -- I recognized what was transpiring instantly, but couldn't accept it.

There was a guy asking for people's tickets outside one of the Citi Field exits, some savvy eBay dealer?

The real irony is that Bruntlett's fielding pct for the ninth inning should've been .600, cuz that "infield hit" by Murphy was bullsh*t, clearly a second E4 after Bruntlett's earlier bobble.

Yes, the first (and most recent) game-ending UTP was in 1927.

I stand corrected in saying it was the first time in history. I was only reporting what I initially heard on TV. I guess the announcers did not reasearch it fully before saying it.

But this game still had some interesting twists and turns.

The first batter hit an inside the park homerun.

The home starting pitcher who was pulled in the first inning, was taken out in the middle of a count to the opposing pitcher.

A triple was overturned correctly after umpires convened to discuss it.

And of course the TP to end it.
