Story here.

If this nation had any heart, it would release him as a sign of compassion so he can die with his family in dignity.

Besides, it's not like he killed anyone!

Of course we don't know how many he has killed indirectly through suicide or heart attacks.

I guess if got transferred to Scotland his commutation would be a done deal.

What is with this "homosexual posse" he supposedly hangs out with, I didn't even know there was such a group.

You can't attribute suicides and heart attacks to Madoff. Those who killed themselves had a choice, and they chose to wimp out rather than simply pick themselves up and start anew. Those who had heart attacks, if there really were any, had bad hearts to begin with; it's their fault in the end.

Madoff just stole some money from greedy capitalists who were just as greedy as he was. It's not like he killed 270 innocent people in a brutal fashion.

The compassionate thing to do is release him NOW to let him die in the presence of his family.

he ruined a lot of people's lives. and not all who invested on madoff were rich, greedy capitalists.

compassion for what? grand larceny is a heinous crime. justice must be served.

Bullshit. I'm sick of this double standard for white collar crimes. If he has cancer, oh f**king well. He can diie in jail like many others have died in jail. He received a sentence and needs to serve it.

Homosexual posse??? Is he the new sheriff?

Well first of all, there have been numerous reports since the NY Post article saying that Madoff doe NOT have cancer and is not dying. And there is no way he'd be getting out if he were, especially given that he's only been in jail a couple of months. If he'd been in prison for 20 or 30 years there might be a chance but his crimes are way too fresh in the public's minds. They didn't let John Gotti out when he was dying, nor should they have. There might be some politicians out there who might be inclined to try and get him released if he did in fact have cancer, but it would be career suicide as public outrage would be so great that they would never be able to get reelcted. Bernie Madoff will be dying in prison.

Crew Chief, you're politics suck.

Robert Novak was a good guy? Madoff should have his sentence commuted? Not even touching the abortion issue, where the hell do you come from? Why should Madoff spend his dying days in relative comfort with his family, while so many of his clients will spend their dying days penniless, unable to access healthcare or unable to provide for their families? You make it sound like his clients should have expected him to rob their entire savings or like it was their fault for investing in the first place, as if it were somehow their greed that was at fault. You have to remember that without investment/greed there is no Economy and what Madoff did was both illegal and one of the grosses violations of client trust in history.

Further, how exactly does a retired person who has seen the fruit of an entire life-time of work pick themselves up and start again? What do you think the job prospects are for retired people in the states aside from Wall-mart Greeter? On the one hand you seem to support self reliance and resilience inherent to American-style capitalism. On the other when that system is violated brazenly, you see grounds for compassion? What gives? I simply can't fathom why anyone would have the poor taste to try and diminish the scale of Madoffs crimes or to suggest that his victims should simply "get over it"
