This has got to be one of the weirder violations in pro sports. Apparently due to the strict substitution rules near the end of a match, only a "blood injury" can justify pulling a player out with another replacing him.

Otherwise you play a man down, just as often happens in soccer when a player is kicked out of a game for certain violations.
