My partner, Dennis, was just diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease. A little background: he suffers from epilepsy, though his grand mal seizures are not that frequent. He's had 8-10 in the 29 years we've been together. In April 2007, he had his most recent one as he was returning from our neighborhood retail area. It happened on the sidewalk as he was coming home; fell flat on his face, smashed his nose, cut his upper lip that required stitches, other bruises, cuts, etc. Luckily someone must have seen it or came by right after, as an ambulance was called. Ever since that seizure, within a couple of months he had a noticeable limp, though slight. It kept getting worse; he's been going through all types of testing and last Tuesday, we got the news. I knew something was up because the doctor had told him he wanted me there at the meeting. He is going to be referred to a specialist at UCSF who only works with ALS patients. The first step is to confirm the diagnosis, even though the doctor seemed to feel 95% certain his diagnosis is correct. Needless to say, I'm devastated, constanstly on the verge of tears, trying to get through it. Because the news is so recent, I know that's why. We've got a great support network of many close friends, but I'm wondering if any Outsporters have any experience with this. I know we're in for a battle. Unless something drastic happens, we know the final outcome. Anything you can provide will help me a lot. Thanks
