Ichiro gets his 2,000th hit in his 1,402nd game, the second fastest in MLB history (Al Simmons did it in 1,390 games). This is in addition to 1,278 hits in the Japanese league. He's presently on his way to his 9th straight 200-hit season.

It will be interesting to see what his final career totals are, and imagine what they'd be like if he hadn't spent so much time in Japan.

Had he played in the US instead of Japan for those years, I believe he could have made a serious run at Pete Rose's career hits record. As it stands, he could wind up with more hits total than Rose if he decides to play long enough.

Ta-dah! Ichiro gets his 10th straight season with 200 hits.

I think this is my favorite part of the Ichiro story...

QUOTE
Pete Rose is the only other player to record 10 seasons with 200 or more hits.

Asked what it meant to him to share a record with Rose, Suzuki was blunt.

“I’ve never actually seen him play with eyes and I’ve never met him before,” he said through a translator before adding, in English, “I don’t care.”

Ichiro has become the Mariners' all-time leader in hits.
QUOTE
Suzuki has 2,248 hits, one better than Edgar Martinez's previous club record. The milestone came on the 10th anniversary of Suzuki's major league debut.
