I stepped outside my apartment building this morning in Queens, New York City and stepped into about two feet of snow. There were no footprints. Because of the national holiday, nobody has been out. Not many cars around. So mounds of snow had piled up in the street and on the sidewalk. It was layers and layers of pure wind-blown driven snow. And it was still snowing. You see I had to go out to get to the store to buy what I need to keep me in for the rest of the day. Just about each step I took the snow went up to my calves. It was a nightmare getting just to the corner of the block.
So tell me Southern Cali and South Florida guys what is the weather like out there? Go ahead and tell me. Make me jealous.

I am with you amazin, it has been snowing here in the Philly area since Saturday 9am with some sleet mixed in for good measure. We have over 20 inches now. I wish I went to the convention instead of being stuck here in my house. I guess Joe in Philly will have a rude awakening when he returns from So. Cal.

My workout today was the old "lift and toss" with a snow shovel.
It'll be gourmet canned goods until we can get to the corner store for grub.
Small relief: the nor'easter is piling snow drifts on the north side of the street so we only have a foot of the white stuff to shovel out front, since we're on the south side.
California's not far enough - how 'bout South Aus?

Boys, don't feel like the Lone Ranger...was 68 yesterday morning and not even 40 here. Thankfully, we'll be back up to the mid sixties and sunny by Thurdsay.

That's it, rub it in Jim....I just finally figured it out that Jim and Cyd made sure that those of us back east who did not attend the convention were "penalized" with the "storm of the century"....I've shoveled over 25 inches of snow in the last two days and while the "lift and throw workout" made up for my not visiting the gym, I hope I don't have to experience this again for a LONG time.
Man, am I envious of all of you now in warm, sunny SoCal

....since every airport around here has been virtually shut down for the past 48 hours, I just hope that Joe, Scotty and the other east coast convention attendees were able to make it home within a reasonalbe period of time.
Oh yeah, I learned my lesson and will DEFINITELY be attending future Outsports conventions -- just make sure they're not scheduled in DC, NY, or Philly in February OK?

It hasn't been too shabby in Northern California, either. I missed the OUTSPORTS Convention but I was able to attend the Peace March in San Francisco on Sunday, where the outdoor thermometer read 60 degrees and fluffy white clounds floated above the glass towers downtown. Perfection. (I'm only just visiting, however; eventually, it's back to Cape Cod...)

Spending part of a February day working in the garden, going for a walk in the Santa Monica Mountains, and restaining some furniture sure makes me glad to be in southern California. wink You guys back east have my sympathy--watching stuff on the Weatehr Channel was almost painful...

I think this is the first time in a LONG time that it is warmer here in Minneapolis than in the NE. This is the only time I'm happy to be living here. wink

We got a little snow (about 3 inches), and I thought that the snowstorm might have come to Detroit, but I don't think that it will. We are due to have more snow at the end of the week (another 3 inches), but hey - it's winter in Detroit!
Detroit has gotten MUCH better in terms of winter snows. When I grew up here (in the 70's and 80's), winter meant 10-25 inches almost monthly, with regular 2- to 5-inch snows almost every day.
Since I've been here (December 2000), we've only had one (1) 18-inch snow.
Who likes to get up at 4a to shoveling chores?!?

I think it should be held next year on Presidents' Day weekend just like it was this year. After all, what are the odds of another storm hitting on the 1st anniversary of this one?

Good logic there Joe....then again, of the past three 18" snowstorms that have hit the DC area (1979, 1996, and 2003), two of the three have actually hit during President's Day weekend so perhaps it may be some type of a regular occurrence -- kind of like the Eagles getting knocked out the playoffs every year (sorry about that, Joe, but I couldn't resist).
How about holding the convention in April or May so we can take in a baseball game at the Phils new stadium? -- even though I'm sure group seats or a luxury box (which sounds like an awesome idea, btw) may be hard to obtain during the stadium's inaugural season....please fill us in if you hear any info about ticket availability at the new ballpark (does it have a name yet?), which should be scarce (unlike the plentiful tickets at the Vet), particularly if Thome, Millwood, Bell, and company live up to their lofty expectations.

The new ballpark does not yet have a name or sponsor. It probably would be good to attend a game there in May, but one would first have to see the 2004 home schedule to see if it coincides with the convention date to be chosen.
