I will admit that I never knew that there was a Queer Hall of Fame but apparently it has been established in Vancouver BC to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Canada.

Amongst the first inductees are the late former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau who passed the legislation and is famous for his comment that government has no place in the bedrooms of the nation. His award was accepted by his son Justin Trudeau MP.

Another honoree is Mark Tewksbury, Olympic gold medalist in swimming, Canada's first Olympic athlete to publically come out, advocate for gay sports and gay rights, author, broadcaster etc.

When I first read about this (the Star`s headline is Queer hall of fame inducts Pierre Trudeau), I was quite surprised. But he does deserve to be an inaugural member for helping to decriminalize homosexuality in 1969. 40 years ago is not a long time. We should be proud.
