Great article from Jim B.
At times I think this country and the sports world is ready for closed players to come out. Yet at other times I see most of Americas sports world won't accept it. Unfortunatly, this is just that case. Obviously I don't know the reasons for this ballplayer to call it quits. I hate to think it's because the, "good 'ol boys" club or the "bubba" attitude enfluenced his decision. I fact, I'll wager his more close teammates, friends and family not only know but give acceptance and support for him to carry on.
I do hope this man comes to terms with his dilemma on both a personal and professional level. When it comes right down to it, only good can come from him comming out of the closet. Opening the eyes of the MLB, the United States sports world on the whole, a positive role model for other athletes from high school to the pros are just a few examples.
Now on a personal note: If I put two x two x two together, following a MBL players career, I could come up with a name. Basicly due to a great player, my fantasy and wishful thinking. But I will not say out of respect. It's just not cool. But the fact this player is now comming to terms with this problem gives hope to all.

Hey, Thumper! Long time no "see."

Here's the link to Jim's post on the blog in case anyone missed it. From what Jim wrote, the guy is retiring due to injuries. Also, it's really pushing it to call him "closeted MLB player" -- it seems like he's actually spent very little time with a major league team -- assuming he's not making all of this up (as many people seem to believe).
