Many will probably wonder who is Anne Morell...actually Anne Morell Petrillo. She is the daughter of Anne Scripps Douglas, heiress to the Scripps publishing fortune. Anne Scripps Douglas was brutally attacked with a hammer by her husband Scott Douglas on New Year's Eve 1993. There was a movie made about the incident called "Our Mother's Murder" which detailed the horrible domestic violence suffered by Anne Scripps Douglas at the hands of her younger husband. There were 3 children total...Anne and Alex from Anne Scripps first marriage, and then a daughter Tori that Anne Scripps Douglas had with her husband Scott. Alex was away with her boyfriend on New Year's Eve and Anne (daughter) was to stay home with her mother that New Year's Eve, but Anne (mother) didn't want Scott to ruin the New Year for Anne (daughter). Anne (daughter) did end up going out, leaving her mother in the house with Scott and their daughter Tori. Tragically, Scott took this opportunity to bludgeon Anne (mother) with a hammer. She died several days after the attack from her injuries.
After the attack, Scott drove his BMW to the Tappan Zee Bridge in NY and jumped off. His body was found a few months later after the spring thaw. Sadly and ironically, Anne Morell drove her BMW last week to the same spot where her stepfather drove his almost 16 years ago, left a suicide note, and like Scott, jumped to her death. A body was recovered today, believed to be that of Anne Morell Petrillo. From what I understand, she was never able to get over the guilt of leaving her mother alone that night. This example is another tragic example of the far reaching ramifications of domestic violence, and I would say that Scott is now responsible for 2 murders. So so tragic. The movie is very sad. My heart really goes out to the entire family who now have to deal with this tragedy, and have so many of those old wounds opened back up because of the obvious parallel in the way in which Scott Douglas took his own life after killing Anne Scripps Douglas.
