Apparently Toronto's venerable gay bar Woody's turns 20 this week.

It's said they're the oldest gay bar in Toronto. Is that true? I suppose with the flux that is Church St. (business opening and closing constantly), I guess it's possible that Woody's has out-lived all its rivals.

I find that place odd--whenever I go there it's either completely empty or it's packed. It's never in-between. How is that possible?

Anyways, their 20th anniversary party is Thursday October 8th.

Fab magazine article and video.

My bf loves that place.

I haven't been to Toronto though.

Woody's is probably the second oldest gay bar in Toronto. The oldest by far is The Barn. When I first came to Toronto in 1979 The Barn was going strong then, but it was only upstairs. On the main floor where The Stables are now was a piano bar. The Barn, along with a bar called 18 East were the 2 "leather" bars in Toronto back then.
Before I met my hubby in Sept 1979 I had a great time at the Barn. There were lots of true leather daddies back then. :-)
