Full Version: hey, even SNL notices that Obama has done "squat"

Not funny (it is SNL, after all), but unusually true for network TV.

I thought it was not bad humor for SNL. But it's pretty cheap.

Anyone who doesn't think anything has been done under the current administration needs to take a look at the unemployment levels during The Great Depression.

If you're out of a job and collecting unemployment you may want to ask yourself what you'd be getting under a Republican administration that wanted to privatize Social Security.

And how many new torture investigations have been initiated or claimed since Jan. 20, 2009?

Of course regaining some respect in the rest of the world doesn't count much as an accomplishment I suppose.

And if I want a really funny critique of the Obama administration I watch Colbert. At least he makes tongue-in-cheek sound like what it is.

Now that Sarah Palin imitation was the SNL break-out performance.

They should pray like there's no tomorrow that she is able to stick around until 2012 along with hunky Levi J.!

Seems like any time anyone wants to discuss the Obama administration, Dems/liberals cover their ears and yell "Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin" Whats her relevance to Obama & how much or how little he has accomplished? huh.gif

Sarah Palin nearly became second in line to the president - with a likelihood of becoming president soon after - and is showing every sign of interest in once again pursuing the office.

Despite public attempts by Republican king-makers to avoid that possibility her fundamentalist followers are still showing disproportionate influence in that party.

In my opinion she is a legitimate point of comparison as long as those circumstances hold.

The other thing Obama HAS done and has received little to no credit for, is for stopping the financial collapse, and subsequently from the country falling into a deep depression. Look, the guy has been in office for 10 months. Lets see how he fares at the end of 4 years shall we? Considering the number of disasters he inherited I think he is doing rather well, but thats just my opinion.

If I hear "he has so mush on his plate" one more time I'm gonna scream....as Jon Stewart hilariously pointed out last night, the way to get some things off your plate is to eat something and not keep loading up your plate at the buffet. Yeah the financial collapse was stopped (for now anyway) but it hasn't created any new jobs yet. And with all that money given out without any new regulations to keep it from happening again, it was basically reshuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. Sure he inherited alot but almost 10 months in you'd like to think that he'd have accomplished something more than Cash for Clunkers. He's the one who came in with all these big ideas and created all these huge expectations. It is time to get something, anything MAJOR done.

To accomplish those he needs more democrats like Florida's representative Alan Grayson who has the courage to stand up to reactionary sensationalists on the 24 -hour news channels as he recently did in this video.

Maybe we need more male democrats who are 6' 3" or taller, or just willing to stand up to that minority of voters who bring guns to political debates because "the law allows it".

Obama is working with what he has. And what he has right now is a country full of people either bought out or frightened by the sensationalist rhetoric and thinly-veiled threats from a small right wing minority. Many journalists are practicing a kind of pseudo-objectivity that requires that bad arguments must be given equal time as good ones and fulfilling the lust for yelling over analysis earns more money.

Uh??? In case you haven't noticed, we are still in a very deep recession. Consumer confidence has not been restored, and unemployment numbers are still rising. The last administration bears a great deal of blame for it, but Obama's stimulus plan has not worked out well so far. And now there's talk of another stimulus package!!!??

I am very glad that he will be the keynote speak this weekend at the HRC Dinner in DC (If I had a date, I'd go). And he has hosted G/L couples at the White House. That's a sea change from any previous administration. But he has not stepped up to the plate yet on DADT. I'm still waiting, Mr. President! And he should lead the charge to repeal the homophobic DOMA. He doesn't have to endorse gay marriage, but he should decry a bill that makes me 4/5 of a person!

Sarah Palin is an idiot. Levi Johnston is a bigger idiot. If the Republicans run her for dog-catcher in 2012, they deserve to remain in the political wilderness. But Democrats should get over her! And send that little leach back to the Alaskan wilderness. Quitting as governor was political suicide for her. Criticism of Obama is good for public debate of issues. And poking fun at him or his administration is part and parcel of our political heritage. Bravo, SNL!

Believe me Blue, I am well aware the country is hurting. This is the worst recession, since the great depression. Hopefully the recovery will be sooner as opposed to later, but I am confident, we will recover. Its going to take time, probably years, but as I said, the financial situation in the country, for now, has stabilized. Some banks are still failing, but nothing like where it used to be. As far as the stimulus, according to Alan Greenspan only about 60% of it has been spent so far. I would like to think it has something to do with the number of people losing jobs down from the 700,000 number per month to the 200-300,000 range. My particular frustration with it, is why it was formulated to be spread out over a period of 1-2 years or longer, and not setup for more immediate effect. I am one who also believe it was to small. President Obama is right about the countrys infrastructure almost shot, roads, bridges, highways, plumbing, you name it, its failing, and the cost to replace is only going to get higher over time. I would have liked the bill to have been more along the $2 trillion range.

Where is the New New Deal?
sportinlife
Good question Bill W.

Unfortunately it may take a Great Depression to convince a majority of the USA voting public that such drastic remedies as were taken during the original New Deal proposed by FDR need to be reinstituted.

The TARPs have drained so much money out of the public treasury that what is left to spend on public works - or Obama's modern equivalent: green jobs and technology - is much less.

And using the private sector to spend that money risks having it drained by a relapse into the same inefficient uses so much private sector money went into with the derivatives and securities shenanigans if those Wall Street con games are not adequately regulated.

I still believe the essence of the problem is the lack of influence that the voting public has over its politicians who are easily purchased by those interested in maintaining the current corrupt market practices.

Publicly funded elections could be a step in the right direction but the Supreme Court could easily pervert such election reform using arguments that corporations have constitutional rights to be treated as individuals.

Ummm...Obama and the Democrats haven't gotten shit done. Its the classic pussy Democratic control issues once again when they are in control of of the Presidency and Congress. At least Rethuglicans get in their and get shit done. Whether you agree with their plans and vision and ideology, they push their stuff through and get a lot of what they want done. The Democrats are in control and it seems like there isn't much common ground.

However, I will be waiting a bit longer to make more of a critical analysis of accomplishments. Its 10 months after 8 years of Bush and even some shit that was left over from daddy Bush and things done by Bill Clinton.

She ran for VICE-president and lost. Obama IS president, yet you somehow believe it's important to obsess on her and ignore Obama, who is deserving of a lot of criticism? The double standards here are so obvious.

And what he also has right now is solid majorities in both houses of Congress, including a rare filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Yet the accomplishments are still lacking, mainly because he has yet to show that he can govern his own party, lart alone the country. Perhaps that'll change, but his first nine months have certainly not lived up to his inspiring campaign rhetoric.
sportinlife
Republicans had clear majorities and the presidency and couldn't manage the dream of destroying social security.

I am not the one obssessing with Palin. Our passive mass media have done a bang-up job of that. I just want to pose a counterpoint...in my small way.
