The winless Leafs do lead the NHL in the category they always lead in - and always will until Southern Ontario gets another team - and that is priciest team to watch for their fans.
Avg ticket price in the NHL - $51.41US
Avg ticket price to watch the Leafs - $117.49US (way more than double the league average with Montreal's $72.18US avg coming in second some $45.00 less than the Leafs - RIDICULOUS)
The 'Fan Cost Index' for a family of four to go to a Leafs game at the ACC - up 8.4% from last year (recession? - what recession?) to $585.57US. That is the average cost for a family of four to go to the game purchasing 4 'general seat' tickets, parking, two small beer, four pops, two programs and two caps.
The Canadiens are # 2 at just $412.12US - some $173.00 less than the Leafs - RIDICULOUS!
Coyotes and Tampa Bay are both in the $221.00US range in the familty of four cost index - so you could almost go to three games for the cost of just one night out at the ACC.
Until a second team is put somewhere in Southern Ontario the Leafs basically have a license to print money. I hear today Bettman likes the idea of a team back in Quebec City if they get a new arena. Come on! THE underserved area is clearly Southern Ontario and these obscene prices the Leafs get away with are just one more statistic supporting that. Remember the Leafs with their current local TV contract get something like $750,000 for each game on local TV - not counting those on Hockey Night In Canada.
This really is moving from the obscene to the absolutely ridiculous!
