Go, go, La La Land teams!
Dear Joe Torre -- here are Ryan Howard's splits this year (BA/OBP/SLUG):
RHP: .320/.395/.693
LHP: .207/.298/.356

You could also root for the Yankees and Dodgers like the moron from the NY Times who says baseball needs it to "recover a portion of the trust, if not the innocence, that it has lost in the steroid era." Yep, nothing restores trust like admitted cheater Alex Rodriguez and lying cheater Manny "women's fertility drug" Ramirez.

I don't really like any of these teams. But I really would like to see the Angels beat the Yanks if for no other reason than so I don't have to be inundated with the NY sports media collectively licking the Yankees taints for two extra weeks.

Utterly baffling failure to pull Kershaw, and then Sherrill, in time by Torre gave Game 1 to the Phils.
It will take smoke and mirrors for either of these teams to beat the AL winner.

A little league shortstop would have had enough time to stop turn around and throw the ball to second base to nail a stupid abreu....i don't see how that turns into "an extraordinary play by a world class shortstop". If anything, give all the praise to texeira...most first baseman wouldnt have been slick enough to be covering the bag on that play...jeter didn't do anything special on that play except be a cutoff man and throw the ball to the bag on a play where a guy was out by 10 feet....

If I can be as objective as possible the Yanks look unbeatable. If the Angels stumble, which I'm sure they will, the Yanks are the team to beat.

Some great bulletpoints from Joe Sheehan of Baseball Prospectus on what we learned (nothing new) last night:
QUOTE
•CC Sabathia is a very good pitcher.
•Alex Rodriguez is a very good baseball player.
•Playing baseball well in the postseason is not a skill above and beyond playing baseball well.
•At heart, the Angels are hackers.
•Smallball is dumb.
•Humans are no longer the best technology for the practice we know as "umpiring."

I'll agree with all of those except the smallball comment. If you have a dominant pitcher i.e Lincecum/Santana/Halladay/Sabathia on piss-poof offensive team, smallball works.
The Angels have used smallball for years, albeit only average success. Yes, they've won a bunch of division titles, but only 1 WS ring. The problem is that they play in the AL, where its mash-mash-mash and nearly takes away from the game of baseball.
You put the Angels in the NL and they'd be competitive yearly.
mets57
Oct 21 2009, 01:51 PM
the angels are competitive yearly. actually, put any AL team in the NL and it'll be competitive.
small ball is stupid. giving up outs for the sake of moving runners over is stupid (except in rare occasions), like what the mets did this year routinely. extra-base hit power is probably the most important tool of a player.

Question...why would Girardi put a pinch runner in for ARod in the top of the ninth after he'd been intentionally walked? If the Yanks had tied the game, the Yanks would have t finish the game without ARod. Didn't seem to make much sense to me. Having someone run for Matsui made sense but why would want to continue playing with your hottest bat and one of the best third basemen on defense?

I wondered that myself. It's not like A-Rod runs like, say, Pat Burrell. And on the other side, removing Lackey was surprising. I'm a little amazed the Angels came back after that inning. That seemed like the final nail in the coffin.
If the Angels win tomorrow and push it to a 7th game, that would be huge for the Phils because the Yankees would have to go with CC Sabathia for game 7, meaning he wouldn't be able to get 3 starts in the World Series; the earliest he could pitch is game 3 on normal rest or game 2 on 3 days' rest.
