Toronto has won the right to host World Pride 2014, after defeating Stockholm in a vote at the InterPride 2009 Conference in St. Petersburg, Florida. Mark your calendars, boys!

I didnt think it was possible for Toronto to get any gayer. We already get 1 million people on the streets for the annual Pride parade.
I notice that some of the preliminary schedules for 2014 have the Pride festivities including both our July 1 holiday and the American 4th of July holiday. That should make for a MASSIVE turnout I would think.
And in case people were not aware with a resort just north of Toronto hosting the G20 over the last weekend in June 2010 - which has almost every hotel room in the city booked for that - Pride Toronto has bumped Pride for 2010 to run through Sunday July 4th next year - with that big American Holiday being the day of our Pride Parade. So for the first time in 16 years our Pride will not be direct competition with those in places like New York and San Francisco. That might give us a record turnout for 2010 - which would be a bit of a preview to an even larger event for 2014.
Should be fun!

Breaking news: (Openly gay) Ontario minister of Energy George Smitherman has resigned his post and will run for mayor of Toronto next year.
Apparently, Toronto has changed the dates of World Pride 2014 to June 20 to 29, as there is a Lions Club International conference July 4 to 8, 2014 which is booking up most of the city's hotel rooms.
