November 1 is the Mexicana Day of the dead aka El Dia De Los Muertos. This holiday is a mixture of Christian and MesoAmerican beliefs. The holdiay is when Mexicanas and some South and Central Americans honour the dead with ceremonies and festivals. The skeleton image is used through out the holiday. The holiday has it's origins in Purhepecha, Olmec, Mixtec, Azteca, Mayan and other Native American beliefs. my Mexicana friends have honoured me by inviting me to attend some of the festivals. It is very moving.
