Thanks to Kenneth in the 212 for the heads up! The Chiefs canned Running Back Larry Johnson after his disparaging comments of Todd Haley and his homophobic drivel to reporters.

I love football. I admire many of the players for the sheer athleticism they display, including Johnson. But I really admire the owners of this team for getting rid of him!

Not a Free Speech Issue!

I'm sorry, but I had not read the post on the new gay sports blog, when I posted this. That blogger has an excellent commentary on this!

While I'm glad the Chiefs ditched this douche, he will probably land another fat contract with another team in the next week or two. And if he were averaging 5 yards a carry like he did in his heyday and they were 7-1 instead of 1-7, the Chiefs would never have cut ties with him over calling someone a fag.

True. It's his poor performance as much as the rest that caused the Chiefs to let him go.

Was his dismissal due to his poor performance before he made the homophobic comments, or his poor performance afterwards? Or was it both?

There is something critical called "keeping your head in the game" that gets really screwed up when a person has distracting problems in their personal life. You can't do most jobs well when there is an overwhelming personal problem.

That he shot off in the first place says there was something going on there. Few players are not aware of the consequences of how they behave for the team and the organization unless they are so distracted or distraught by something internal that they forget or deliberately blow up to let off the frustration.

He's been a poor performer all season. He's averaging 51.1 yards per game, 2.7 yards per carry, no touchdowns. The Twitter attack on his coach and gay slurs happened 2 weeks ago. The Chiefs had a bye and then he was suspended for this past Sunday's game.

Larry Johnson's dad speaks out. It was nice to read this info.

Even if that's the case sil he still has no excuse 'bout his rantings. Imagine if he would have been a non-African American player using the "n" word to vent in the exact same situation/circumstances. I honestly don't think that the Black community would be so forgiving. In fact, I'd say that his career would be done. There's just no excuse for that type of behavior. We need to apply the same type of rules & judgment to all players. Otherwise the league & public is simply being hypocritical. Even his dad was disappointed about his son's behavior. Also, I don't think that a player's gift(s) for the game should give him an easier pass in such situations. Just sayin...
