Most of the mainstream is late on this. I read an article a couple weeks ago that she would be leaving because of being under pressure of losing the opportunity to have her own cable network. Statements then said that there were no plans for Winfrey to leave her current tv situation but I knew that it would only be a matter of time before a formal announcement was made.

Yeah mdterp. I had read about this a couple of weeks ago but it seemed then that it wasn't official until now. I had also
read that she may be moving here to LA to be closer to her OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) channel.

Since she's announced she's moving to LA, I would imagine Harpo (her company) will move as well. It's quite a blow to the civic image of Chicago - Oprah was a universal symbol of recognition for the city, and she had a prominent place in all their marketing to visitor and tourist groups.

I will give her props for getting people to actually pick up a book and read, but now that she is going off the air people will begin to think for themselves and take some responsibility for their actions.

Soon after her Sarah Palin interview Oprah decides to call it quits. Suspicious?
