Maybe they could give Terry McAuliffe a call and rename it for "Global Crossing"?

Personally, I hope the judge makes them keep it until Enron fails to make their next payment. Serves 'em right for giving in to the whole corporate naming thing. Maybe something like this will make the 'stros think twice about selling naming rights to the ballpark again. Then again, probably not...

Well, Enron paid the bill through 8/31/2002 -- so baseball fans will hear and see the name for much of the season. Maybe Houston fans can come up with a nickname -- much like the Broncos fans have done with "The Diaphragm"! I don't see how the Astros can claim that they're being "materially and adversely affected" by the name -- but, no doubt, no one wants to purchase those "Enron Field" t-shirts anymore!

apparently, the ENRON spokesperson doesn't get it either...
(from CNNSI..)
(Denne, Enron's spokeswoman, says she isn't quite sure how the team is being harmed by the company's name being prominently placed on Enron Field.
"How good a team they are is determined by how they play on the field, not the name on the stadium," she said.)
Why don't they just name it "Osama bin Laden" field then? She obviously never took a marketing course!!

Actually all the street signs in a five block radius must be changed along with the name. They all say 'Enron Field District'. It is nicknamed the 'gas house'. Being how the Astros a middle market team, the additional $3 million a year in naming rights goes a long away for the roster. We just cringe here about the prospects of Gallery Furniture.com Field.

Call it
Astros Field for now; how imaginative!
And nice crack, CITT, but Global Crossing has an actual link to the park! Astros fan President Bush the Elder (the one who was actually elected) took GC stock in lieu of his $80,000 fee after making a speech for them, and cashed in for $4.5 MILLION! That's a few season tix...

Hey, maybe we could get W to name this stadium. He did such a clever job with the Rangers's stadium "The Ballpark" and his dog "Spot".
