Yup,Gaelic, or GAA( Gaelic Athletic Asociation) is the national sport of Ireland. The asociation contains two diferent sports- Gaelic football, which is the sport you saw with guys runing with football, and kicking it every 3 paces; and the other sport is hurling which is played with a small ball(slitor) and a stick (hurley) made from ash.
DC-area listers may be lucky enough to see the rare broadcast of a hurling game on northern Virginia's Channel 56. I can't remember when I last saw it, so it must have been several years ago. Hurling seems to take an element from this, an element from that, and an element from the other. Put it all together, and it's fun to watch. There are probably a few clubs in the U.
