Just read a story online about Martina. I guess the breast cancer was detected early, fortunately, and the prognosis is excellent. Good for her. Thoughts and best wishes to her!!!

Also glad to know she is tentatively out of the woods. For all her foibles and prickly personality, I have the utmost respect for Martina.

She has always been an idol of mine. I first saw her play a tournament in Charlotte NC. in 1976 She defeated Evonne Goolagong. I was just a young kid then but somehow I felt she would end up being one of the greatest. The fact she ended up being "family" made her even more special to me because I was having my own struggles with myself and I admired her courage.

This woman is amazing. While undergoing radiation treatments at a hospital in Paris, she not only shows up for work commentating for TTC but is now PLAYING TENNIS, having entered the legends doubles event at Roland Garros. Partnered with fellow Czech native Jana Novotna, the two have handily won their first round 6-1, 6-2 over MJ Fernandez and Conchita Martinez.
