Blame MJ. That is when things started to change. But, as a ball player myself, the looser, not necessarily longer shorts, are more comfortable.

And, if you pay close attention you will notice some guys do not wear anything under shorts. Or, they might wear boxers, which is like wearing nothing.

I only know this becasue I knew and know guys who do it.

I do miss seeing the big thighs though biggrin.gif

Perhaps it's a generational things, but those short booty huggers were not attractive. They look heinous when ou see them in old footage. Modern basketball shorts are more masculine and therefore more attractive on dudes. They make guys look like they have macho swagger.

I agree, DP. The booty huggers were not cute. However, I do think the long shorts are a bit too much. Some guys' shorts are so long you can only make out about inches of their calf. That's just ridiculious.

I think we need a nice mid thigh, to upper knee short.

Now if we must discuss the entire uniform... I have to say the jerseys are far sexier than those of the past. I love that sleeveless fitted looks that allot of the teams (college is all I watch) are going with. They make the armns and tits POP.

I just don't find guys in short shorts or booty shorts hot.

Frankly, guy's athletic wear is getting weirder and dorkier by the day.

And don't get me started on basketball uniforms.

I know one guy who lives in my apartment complex who goes out to shoot hoops at the local park and rec center in one of those dorky looking outfits from Nike, Adidas, etc.

When he comes back from the court, I feel like saying "Nice looking PAJAMAS go got on there".

I believe the idea for those dorky uniforms came from Michael Jordan:

However, whether you're gay or str8, modern athletic wear for guys looks just plain AWFUL.

It's less the shorts than what's in them, but below the knee? Ridiculous. Bound inhibit the range of motion at the least and to cause safety problems at worst.

It's all really about what you're used to. Those of us who remember the short shorts days would like to see them return. The under-40ish crowd who should wear them were they to return are dialed into the long look, and don't want to look out of date. It will take a new sports hero à la Michael Jordan to effect a new look.

In a similar vein I'd like to see the sagger look disappear. So help me G-d, I saw a shirtless guy sporting the sagger look with two pairs of boxers on. One layered over the other just so, and his pants over them both. The look has been around for over 20 years. It needs to go, too.

Pushkin,
I agree with you on the saggy look. It's sad that the prisons can dictate fashion.

I think we trending back to the fitted look. I don't mean the skinny jeans (what is that about)? But, more of the str8 leg pants that compliment your body. I know I've just bough 2 pair, and they seem to be catching on more and more.

Here in S.F. I'm seeing more guys jogging in traditional 70's & 80's style running shorts instead of those long baggy "Pajama Pants".

If you like the old shorts, here's a simple way to bring them back: A bunch of guys across in cities all across the country (and the world for that matter) should just decide to start running/jogging in them and evenetually the fad will catch on. The same goes for wearing speedos for swimming.

You might also email clothing makers urging them to start marketing short shorts as "Men's Wear" too. In ads and stores, the traditional shorts are displayed only in the "women's wear" section. However the "men's wear" section has only the long, baggy pajama style.

Paraphrasing from the Obama campaign, If you want change, speak up!!! smile.gif

I've got a rotation of 3 basketball shorts, 2 adidas and one I got from jef (if you remember that day ray (supposedly they are frankies)).

I want to buy at least 4 more, but I'm willing to get some better ones. Do you guys recommend the nike dry fits? what about under armour ones?

Or should I just go for the cheapie ones I usually buy at Big5, marshalls, etc? (sub $20)

I am an Adidas guy. 98% of all my sports gear is adidas. They fit me better. Besides, Nike is so....common.
