It's time to start a 2006 Mets thread!
Now that 06 is upon us, it's appropriate. With the offseason moves we've made, I'm really looking forward to this upcoming season!

Aaron Heilman has told the Mets on several occasions that if he is not going to be a starter in 2006, he wants to be traded, agent Mark Rodgers said Friday.
\"He's been polite but persistent,\" Rodgers said. \"He's enjoyed the Mets, the city and the people, but he can do the math. He knows right now there's no room for him. \"
The Mets envisioned using
heilman mostly in a setup role, but they liked how he performed in 2005 as a pitcher who could be used in many roles.

YEAH BABY....LET'S GO METS !!
As well as Jae Seo pitched when they finally brought him back up from Norfolk, they'll probably find a way to trade him. He's not a big favorite of Rick Peterson's and after all it's HIS team, right??
I hope the Mets have a good year and even make the playoffs. I'm ordering my tickets this week!

Any rumors as to who is going to manage the Brooklyn Cyclones this year??

You were right on that one-Seo to LA for some relievers who I haven't heard of- stats don't look great. I hope they at least tried to give them Benson or Zambrano first.

The Mets have signed
Bret Boone to a minor league contract.

i don't like it.
unreliable zambrano should've been traded, and not seo!

Jan 4 2006, 08:36 PM
Willy and Peterson were down on Jae Seo for the whole season last year. They only used him because they had to. And he did well for the team. So they reward him by trading him. Well I hope he does well in LA in a regular starting rotation spot. And kicks the Mets ass when they play in LA! Or better yet, when the Dodgers play in New York!
mets57
Jan 4 2006, 08:46 PM
rick peterson should be fired! or shot!
he never fixed zambrano.

I think Heilman is better than Zambrano or Seo, and we need him in the rotation.
Now our starting 5 is Pedro, Glavine, Benson, Tracshel and Heilman. Zambrano is still the odd man out, which is fine by me, and with Wagner in the 9th, we have more stability with the guys we got from the Dodgers for the 7th and 8th.
also, the boone signing was great! if he was half the player he was 3 years ago, tha'ts still a tremendous upgrade over kaz

The Mets have
traded Kris Benson to the Baltimore Orioles for righthanded pitchers Jorge Julio and John Maine. Julio was the Orioles' closer from 2002-04 so they have an option if Billy Wagner's arm breaks down.

It seems as though they could have gotten more for him if they waited, but I guess they fill a need.

it's troubling that we traded two starters for basically bullpen spare parts....
we are saving some cash though, and looking to sign jeff devanon (which would be a great addition to the bench).
hopefully minaya is going to parlay the cash into a better quality starter

I'm still trying to figure out this trade. Jorge Julio? Please. The starting staff isn't getting any younger. One big-time injury and it's all over. Trading Benson and Seo could really come back to bite this team. But could Omar be clearing salary to bring in someone like Barry Zito?

Jan 21 2006, 10:39 PM
i'm not that unhappy with the trade. for one, anna f**kin' benson is gone! good riddance!

Salary/Anna dump. Either Heilman or Jeff Weaver (if they snag him) will go into the rotation.

Not to dwell on the happily-departed, Baltimore-bound bimbo, but what is all the hubbub over Anna anyway? I'm a gay guy who can still look at a woman and think/understand that she is sexy. But she doesn't look like she could get a job at a low end strip joint.
Anyway, glad to have the distraction gone. Benson never came close to living up to the promise he showed in Pittsburgh. But despite all the great moves the Mest have made so far, there are still alot of questions regarding that rotation.

Anna Benson is probably best remembered for telling the media that if Kris ever cheated on her, she'd f**k the entire team to get back at him. Classy.
Anyone have an update on Piazza? I get no news out here in the desert--but I do get spring training games!

And a truly horrid excuse for a closer he was too, JIP. One messageboard I frequent campaigned to have his name turned into an obscenity. eek!
Terribly sorry for you Mets fans that your GM traded for him; I don't know what he was thinking (except to get Anna Benson out of town). On the bright side, John Maine showed some promise when he was with the Orioles.

Piazza hasn't signed anywhere yet. I truly hope that we will still offer him a contract to stick around another year.

Honestly I'm really rooting for the Mets
being a Die-Heart Yankee Fan...I shouldnt...but I'm so tired of seeing them not even make the Playoffs that I really really think this year will be there year to finally be in the postseason again.
Now we all know they will always play second fiddle to the Yanks but I will give them all there props if they actually have a great season..
So good luck Mets I'll be rooting for you....but not during the Subway Series

well it would be nice to watch the game...but even though I'm 4 f**king hours from DC, ESPN decided to blackout the telecast in Blacksburg. Adding to the frustration, my Adelphia package does not include the Nationals broadcasts.
Further adding to the frustration, my Adelphia package isn't (at least right now), carrying the Extra Innings package.

Apr 3 2006, 02:58 PM
glad to get the win...haven't seen the controversial play at the plate, but from what I've read, LoDuca dropped teh ball...
Glavine looked sharp (for as sharp as you can look on cbssportsline!)
Nady was great and so was Wagner.
I'm a bit worried about Beltran. He left a lot of guys on base, and we are going to need him to deliver more in the clutch.
1 down...161 more regular season wins to go!

All in all, a nice start to the season. A nice win and a pretty good start by Glavine. Let's hope they continue on this path! And by the way, Mike Piazza's first at bat with the Padres resulted in a home run. Take that, Omar!

Apr 4 2006, 06:42 AM
LoDuca definitely dropped the ball, but got the call anyway. And TV replays of the game-ending play at second showed Reyes missed the tag on Jose Vidro. Sometimes it pays to be lucky.

On the other hand, Heilman looked a little shaky and it was discouraging to see Beltran, Delgado and Floyd go a combined 0-for-10.
Bill W
Apr 4 2006, 07:08 AM
Beltran should be fine (if you expect him to regularly be his October '04 self, dream on), and he did make the throw that ended the game. And 'clutch' ability is ex-jock propaganda -- if he gets his hits, some of them will drive in runs.

rookie mets pitcher loses the no-no, and wagner blows his second save opportunity.

Keep your enthusiasm in check, Mets fans... there are better teams in the NL than the Nats and Marlins (like maybe all of them). Still, encouraging.
js1metsfan
Apr 10 2006, 03:06 PM
I know that there are better teams than the Marlins and the Nationals, but what I find particularly encouraging is that last year, we lose Sunday's game against Willis.
This year though, we are getting clutch hits when necessary against a good pitcher and a tough come-back win against one of the best pitchers in the game today.
Josh
Bill W
Apr 14 2006, 10:54 AM
"Clutch," nah. When you stomp the nats and Marlins, some of the myriad hits are bound to follow others.
When the Mets stop hitting the snot out of the ball -- maybe as soon as this weekend, when they start the competitive portion of the schedule -- this worries me: they've drawn only 23 walks in 9 games (EIGHT by Beltran); that's one more than the Phillies, who are last in the NL. Let's see if the rate picks up once they face pitchers who don't throw hittable cookies nonstop.
jerseyguy
Apr 14 2006, 05:05 PM
True, the Mets have beaten up on the Nats and Marlins, but they're beating the teams they're supposed to beat, something that hasn't happened in awhile.
