Tonight, Jeff Clement, a senior catcher for the Marshalltown (IA) Bobcats hit his 71st home run for his high school career. This breaks Drew Henson's high school mark of 70.

Jeff has signed a letter of intent to go to Southern California, but may enter the Twins organization if the price is right. In addition, James Peterson of Winterset (IA) hit his 68th career homer.

For those of you wondering, we play summer ball in Iowa. Clement and Peterson both have about 10 more games to go before the playoffs start, so the new record should be even higher!

TB- Clement was taken in the 12th round. Based on the fact that the Twins already have a very high-priced catcher prospect in their system (Joe Mauer, also bigger at 6'4 210 to Clements 6'0 190) maybe Clement's best option is to go to SC and bulk up a bit (natural methods of course). Still, the record IS an impressive record!

PS - GRATUITOUS NON-SPORTS MENTION

The name Marshalltown rang a bell as I have many times heard on the radio or read in a program the name of the "Gramma Fisher Foundation of Marshalltown Iowa", a charity that consistently gives large grants to opers companies for new productions - they stipulate that the productions must be shared by two or more major companies, thereby getting the most for their operatic buck (very smart)
