Has anyone seen the cover of this week's Sporting News (June 9, 2006 issue)?
The Mets' David Wright graces the cover in a full body shot, and what a hottie! That smile, that couple days' growth. Wow!
Check it out:

As I posted in the baseball thread, the May 29 edition of Sports Illustrated featured an article on Wright (called 'Prince of the City') and included this sentenece in the opening paragraph:
"Roughly half the unwed women in Queens--and about a third of the unwed queens in Queens--want the budding superstar for a husband."

YES!
David Wright is the man, not only cause he's hot, but because he's an awesome player on New York's true team, the Mets.

PHILADELPHIA -- The maturation of David Wright has reached a point where he is no longer considered just one of the most talented players on the Mets. Wright, at the age of 23, already is pushing to be included among baseball's elite, and his offensive numbers this year suggest he will be granted membership to that exclusive club before very long.
Or as one scout put it this weekend in Phoenix, \"In two or three years, this kid could be the best in the game.\"

How dare you! He's a better fielder and has displayed far steadier power than Captain Fistpump.

As 2006 continues to evolve into a magical season for the Mets, there's no doubt which player is the darling of the fans at Shea Stadium. On a star-studded team full of high-profile, high-salaried veterans, it is 23-year-old David Wright, who earns barely more than the major-league minimum salary of $327,000, who frequently evokes chants of \"MVP! MVP!\" whenever he produces a magic moment.
He was Mr. Right again yesterday, driving in five runs to lead the Mets to a 9-4 victory over the Orioles.

GOD, HE'S HOT!!!
As I told my friends the other day, he is the only reason why I would convert from a die-hard Yankees fan to a Mets devotee. Not only is he cute as a button, he also has a body that is HOT, HOT, HOT!!! And he IS only 23! Talent and good looks to match!

He is hot. I like that he's not afraid to have some extra meat on his body.
But I can't help but think of Jason Gedrick when I see him:

I for one would not mind a bit if ESPN obsessed over Wright as much as they have obsessed over Bonds, or over Ortiz, Ramirez, Jeter, A-Rod, or any other Boston/NY player.

He's not at the top of my list and I'm not one to assume every cute guy is gay....but did anyone see his little 30 second profile last night? He prefers pastel shirts? What???
Not to mention you can't find a word about him and a girlfriend and showed up on the red carpet as a 'single' guy.
I don't think I've ever pegged a guy as a closet case but he would win it...

Man it's been a while since I posted here....
Anyway, not having seen many Mets games this year (being in Texas), I didn't know much about David Wright. But all the stories I've heard are true--he has absolutely the perfect personality to play in New York, and is excelling. MVP candidate in what, his second full season? He's not Pujols, but he's darn close and should mature into an elite player in the next 2-3 years.

And just like that, Wright was through the black stage door and into a whole new realm. There is no bigger story in baseball than the Mets - just check the cover of this week's Sports Illustrated - and Wright's appearance last night on \"The Late Show with David Letterman\" is an indication that his popularity, like Derek Jeter's, is already transcending the sport.
Need proof? Let's recap Wright's week. Cliff Floyd joked that his 23-year-old teammate wouldn't hit three homers in Monday's Home Run Derby. But Wright silenced him by swatting 16 in the first round alone and finished second to the Phillies' Ryan Howard. As for the All-Star Game itself, Wright homered off the Tigers' Kenny Rogers in his first at-bat, and a few innings later, his father was interviewed during the national broadcast.
