I dropped in on this thread because the word "manscaping" caught my eye. I had never heard of it, and thought it might have to do with admiring men who mow lawns and trim trees and bushes without their shirts on. ;-)
I'll try to bring the thread back to athletes... namely, the wrestlers seen on Real Pro Wrestling which is a showcase for amateur wrestlers to compete in real wrestling (NOT WWE-style) for prize money. All but the heavyweights compete in trunks, no shirts.
It's been a revelation for me as an amateur wrestling fan to see that some of the competitors who were hairy-chested in college (visible over their singlets, or when they dropped straps) suddenly seem to have lost it all for Real Pro Wrestling. Or perhaps done some trimming.
One guy who may have done this is Garrett Lowney, who you might know from the Olympics -- he competed in 2000 and 2004, winning a bronze medal in Sydney for the US. At the 2000 Olympics, he wore the more revealing older-style singlet, revealing a chest with rather thick blondish-brown hair for a 19-year-old. Now, in Real Pro Wrestling, his chest hair was not as visible, looking like it had been trimmed/mowed.
Another guy is Wes Hand who wrestled for the Iowa Hawkeyes as heavyweight. During most of his college mat career, he had thick, dark hair all over his chest. However, when he faced Brock Lesnar in the 2000 NCAA heavyweight finals, none of that was visible over his singlet as it had been only weeks before. He looked like a plucked chicken!
