Brent, great photos as usual!

Hey, some of those guys look like "family" or at least "family-friendly." biggrin.gif Brent, are there any out volleyballers and which photos show them? I hope it's this cutie, or maybe this daddy? Sigh.

I sure would like to chew on "This Daddy's" nipples! tongue.gif

There aren't any male pros out that I know of, although it did seem to me there were a number that were family.

The women--as is more typical--seem to be a bit more out, such as easily embracing their partner in social situations.

The atmosphere is very intense, and rather charged, with the women in bikinis and the men in board shorts. Women hug and touch more often, more easily, although there is a fair amount of it with the men too. Some go out of their way to leave their hands closed when they embrace/back-slap, lest it appear too personal--but when they win, sometimes they can't help themselves--jumping on each other and rolling in the sand.

Many have sharply developed personalities that get them more attention as well as revved up to play, making for a very entertaining sport. The over-the-top machismo is underscored with the amped up music and announcers, sometimes undercutting the incredible atheleticism by defining them in narrow ways.

It also strikes me that the TV coverage is quite homophobic, with the cameramen/directors/commentators emphasizing "hot babes" courtside or "beach views" just comprising them to break up the action at the net. The reverse really isn't true during the women's matches.

It is gratifying that the AVP is finally recognizing there is a gay market out there--and it parallels marketing to women, as opposed to a narrow target of just young straight men. Creating personalities of hot bods doing amazing things in competition on the sand like they have with Kerry Walsh & Misty May can only help the sport broaden its' appeal.

Internationally there is still a strong bias against doing that with the men, as witnessed by the Olympic REQUIREMENT that the women play in bikinis, but the men wear tank tops. Thankfully the AVP doesn't do that--and you can see the results in the photos! tongue.gif biggrin.gif
