Drooling gay fans of our national pastime want to know these things, do we not?
Surely there are some of you in the know out there.
Joe in Philly
No. No, there isn't anyone in the know here.

And the only reason we're drooling is because we haven't had dinner.

There are definitely gay guys in the world of pro sports. Of course, they're all closeted. When you see the trends of gay professional sports players, they always come out after their sports careers are done. Examples: Billy Bean, Esera Tuaolo, Dave Kopay, etc.

Going on intuition and gaydar (not wishful thinking), I would pick out a few in MLB: Mike Piazza, Barry Zito, Ken Caminiti (now deceased), Troy Aikman of the NFL, and many others.

If someone could come out during their career, instead of coming out after retiring from their career, would be something historical. For now, they all stay in the closet. They stay in the closet because they don't want to jeopordize their professional sports careers. It would be such a burden, with all the definite media attention to a current pro athlete who's also gay. To come out as a gay pro athlete would just distract from their game performance.

I have no doubt that some pro athlete in the future will come out during their career.

Not true. Figure skater Rudy Galindo came out while he was still competing. Brian Orser was forced out when his former lover sued him. Wasn't Greg Louganis still competing when he came out? Of course, these are individual sport athletes...which is where the only out athletes are going to be found.

Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Amelie Mauresmo come to mind. Never forget that females can count as out athletes.

So, I guess a better way to put it would be...If you had to bet which athlete/s were gay or lesbian(without doing the wishful thinking thing) in any sport, who would you choose?

I know this is geared toward Baseball, but I honestly don't know enough about the players to offer an input.

So, with that said, I'm dating myself with this, but I really thought Magic and Isiah (sp?) had an interesting relationship, what with the kissing on the court before each game.
