I think it's unfortunate that his
biography places the pressure, and "low-post" goal, upon him of becoming the first "white man" to break the 10 minute barrier in the 100 m. Why shouldn't he seek to become the best or the best that he can be?
Also "racial purity" is as hard to define as it is to prove. Aboriginals excel disproportionately in some sports in Australia just as African-Americans do here. There are probably many "white aussies" who would have difficulty proving "racial purity." There are also many reasons individuals excel in any undertaking. I don't believe anyone should set goals based on perceived limitations.
