New phillies ad campaign debuted in today's Phila. Inquirer. Have been able to find picture online yet, but it is a shirtless picture of Pat Burrell, picture shows him from a little below the neck up, holding a baseball hat behind his back.

Text of ad is: Hear him on WPEN (radio station) tomorrow. See him at the Vet April 5th. Look like him? Doubtful.

Guess the Phillies are trying to atract more women and gay men. Can't wait to see the rest of the team, particulary Scott Rolen, Travis Lee and Mike Lieberthal.

Somehow Scottie I doubt th powers that be are in on the gay male marketing strategy

Just below the neck up is not quite shirtless enough! And I didn't notice this in the Daily News. I don't see why not...they're owned by the same company!

The Pat Burrell pic is really hot. He has a great body. It would have been nice if they showed more of him though.

Oh my God....I'd love to see the full picture in color on glossy paper rather than in a newspaper.

Shirtless? HA!! I don't know why these athletes don't show more. Gays aside, women want to see the goods. Wheather they say they do or not. These guys have a huge ego, of course they want to show off. Lots of bucks for beefcake now days. But I'm sure the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and other organizations don't want to be tied into these gimmics. But give the girls what they want. And give us what we desire. A big ole slab of tube steak from our favorite player. Prepared and ready to serve, with a garnish on the side.

I finally saw the ad ... and as much as I like to see skin being shown by a well-muscled jock, especially one as attractive as Mr. Burrell, I have to say the ad left me cold.

We all like to look at hot guys, but aren't the hottest guys the ones who are movie star handsome and don't have a clue how hot they really are? The ad's a little too "in your face" (and humorlessly so) with its claim about Burrell's good looks. The Phillies ad comes really close to insinuating that the fans are a bunch of fat asses who'd be in better shape if only they'd stop watching and start playing.

I know sex sells ... but the tag line "Look like him? Doubtful" ... is way too smug and a little too superior. It's insulting without a purpose (maybe that's just the way Philadelphia is?). It's totally irrelevant to getting fans to go Phillie games.

The pic looks great. Burrell looks great. The ad is crap.

RPFNYC: You need a Yahoo ID (free, of course) and then sign in (top right corner of the window you'll be in) and you'll be taken to the Yahoo "topless jocks" club, which has many great loking pics for you to enjoy.

Yawwwwwwwwwwwwn....got anything original to say?

The ad is no doubt something an agency came up with in an attempt to be edgy. Like most ads, it won't have any effect.
