When I read about Tommy Lasorda criticising Barry Bonds, I can't help but to call Lasorda on playing the holier-than-thou card. Is anyone out there is familiar with the story Lasorda's son who died in 1991, who was gay and reportedly died of AIDS but never confirmed or talked about publically by Lasorda Sr.?

For both Bonds and Lasorda, concerning two extremely different issues, the quote "you can't handle the truth" comes to mind.

I assume you’re referring to the USA Today article ? I read a piece today by Scott Miller, CBS Sportsline.com writer. He discussed Lasorda’s description of Bonds as a “cheater”. I believe Lasorda is a class guy, so I think he really believes Bonds cheated, but, there might be other reasons why he said what he did. Miller pointed out some very interesting stuff:

-When Hank Aaron gained immortality by hitting HR # 715, it was against Dodgers pitcher, Al Downing (even though Tommy wasn’t manager then).
-When Reggie Jackson hit three home runs in the 1977 World Series, it was against Dodgers pitchers Burt Hooten, Elias Sosa, and Charlie Hough.
-Barry Bands got HR # 500 against Dodgers pitcher, Terry Adams.
-Barry Bonds got the single season HR record against Dodgers pitchers (#71 against Chan Ho Park; #72 against Chan Ho Park; and #73 against Dennis Springer).

I heard Tommy refer to Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth as two of the greatest baseball players in history. I'll bet he believes that Bonds doesn't belong in the same category with them. And, I'll bet he particularly doesn't want his Dodgers linked historically (yet again) with Barry Bonds. The Dodgers have done enough to help Bond's cause. So maybe his comments were made because he hates the fact that Dodgers pitchers contributed to the record-breaking success of someone he believes to be a cheater.

I don’t see any connection between Lasorda’s comment about Bonds and his son’s unfortunate death from AIDS. Most grieving families want to keep that stuff private. The public doesn’t have a right to know, so Lasorda can keep quiet if he wants. This doesn’t necessarily mean he was ashamed of his son or the disease that took his life.

In reference to the Lasorda interview, it was from USA Today, among other news sources.

As I wrote in the previous post, I admitted that the two issues I brought up are dissimilar and I admit that this is a stretch but as someone who used to think Lasorda was a class act, I'm calling him on being truthful to the public just as much as I'm calling Bonds to be truthful to the public, keeping certain things and issues in private notwithstanding.
