Just in time for the World Cup, comes this slide show "The Boys of Summer" from the NY Times Magazine, featuring Kasey Keller, Brian McBride, Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, Clint Mathis, Pablo Mastroeni and Cobi Jones. OK, for me some of them -- Donovan's and Mastroeni in particular --- are way too posed ... but still worth a gander! (Registration may be required to view).

Good looking guys, but what is up with some of those clothes? Looks like they were shopping in the women's section of the Goodwill store. LOL Seriously, it looks like they are wearing women's clothing, and not nice stuff either, ugly women's clothing. Couldn't they just take shots of then Nude? I'd rather see that anyway.
Joe in Philly
They're mostly wearing overpriced clothes from snooty fashion designers that most real men wouldn't be caught dead in! The description of the clothes worn by Brian McBride:
[quote] He's in a Prada cotton shirt, $360, and pants, $390.

Did you see those pants? You'll never see anyone wearing them out on the streets. Utterly ridiculous.

That turquoise thing that the Argentine player is wearing takes the cake. I woudn't wear it -- but I'm not a soccer star either!! No doubt Beckham has one in his wardrobe!
sportinlife
If you like these, or not as the case seems to be, check out Beckham on the cover of GQ's Collectors Edition for May 2002.

Beaded underwear, bold stripped suspenders dangling from factory-faded baggy jeans strategically lowered to half-way down his ass, glam-rock hairdoo and fingernail paint.

Among sports superstars only David B. could get away with this and still collect his salary.

Personally he could still be my soccer-buddy...just leave V. Spice out of the picture.

Where was Tony Sanneh? He's one of the hottest guys on the U.S. team. That DaMarcus Beasley is really cute!

Hot teams in the World Cup:

Senegal - Britain - France - Nigeria - Brazil - Costa Rica - South Africa - Japan - Turkey - Ecuador - U.S. - Italy - Spain - Cameroon

I'll take that $1,138 shirt! No, wait, I'll take three of them. Puhh-leeeeze!
Who buys that Shiite?
Boy #2 in the slide-show however.....hmmmmm. Indeed!
I'll take three of those anytime. Or all at the same time.
Purrrrrrrr.

I tell you, each soccer game you watch brings a new hottie in your life. No wonder this is the world's most popular sport!

Am watching Paraguay-South Africa on the replay this morning and Wow--Roque Santa Cruz of Paraguay! Shown here with Owen Hargreaves, a cute Canadian who plays for England.

But those Paraguayans, with their dark hair, dark eyes and smoldering good looks... mmm!

The Brian McBride caption is hilarious. Besides just looking like a circuit boy, he's "on the fence" and wearing a prada shirt.

The DaMarcus Beasley numeral pendant is available at Home Depot, $4.99 in your choice of numbers with or w/o reflective finish.
Charlie in the Trees
Looking at the extremely high-priced, gawd-awful-ugly shirts and pants the soccer boys are wearing (e.g., the $400 Prada cotton shirt that looked like polyester - women's polyester - I refuse to recognize the existence of the little turqouise number the Argentine is modeling), I have only this question:

Is high fashion simply a means for confiscating money from the stupid rich?

I love the way he holds that post and juts out his derriere..I think he's done that before.

Someone in Denmark thinks the way we do! Here's \"The World Cup's Best Looking Men\" from the Danish on-line newspaper, BT. Click on the name in the right side of the screen to view the pics. For those who don't read Danish, a little help on navigation: billedseries means "picture series"; Næste is "next"; Forrige is "back". Enjoy! It's a nice way to spend a little time ...

Please, please, please. Post links, NOT huge pictures. They make the board load more slowly and take up too much visual space. We have asked people to restrict actual images to small ones.

We do not want to turn off the ability to directly post an image as a link, but will if we get overrun by these huge images. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Here's one I like--Brian McBride embracing (and lifting) Earnie Stewart. GO USA!

You mean this turqouise thing.

Looks like it should TOP a cake...a five year olds birthday cake.

Have to admit I took one look at his butt and didn't care in the least what he was wearing

And why does number 14 have his jaws puffed out..I don't think that's gonna reduce the damage.

One of the best features of ESPN's coverage is the pre-game commentary by my long-time crush John Harkes -- scroll down for the best pic. To bad they don't feature him like that though!

[ June 07, 2002: Message edited by: DCBucky ]

sportinlife
So DCB do you know what the context is of this photo of Harkes? Is he going for a swim or posing for a swimsuit shot?

He looks great ..whatever!

I watched this morning's match of England vs. Argentina. What a game! and the sites were good too. I don't know his name, but the goal keeper for Argentina is a very handsome man. Most of England's team is good eye candy.

thanks sportinlifey! I enjoy any glimpse of that damned sexy Mick anyday, any time. (by the way... for all you PC people out there. that ain't a slur. His name is Mick McCarthy)

It feels like St.Paddy's Day to me. Cuz I feel like having a little irish in me.
DCBucky
Cute Danes -- Rommedahl, Jensen and Jørgensen -- celebrate after the first goal.

Goalkeeper Thomas Sørensen stopped everything that came his way.

Danish fans are ready to take on Sweden / England / Argentina.

What a sexy face..those eyes..get me to Slovenia..quick

A photo of Nicky's Butt and a strong right hand and a sneaky hand

A shirtless Cobi Jones hugs goalkeeer Brad Friedel after the best moment of today's match -- when it ended -- and they learned that South Korea had won!
sportinlife
Glad you explained that Bucky. I had to follow the game by radio on the road (and by computer at work - sshhh!) so I missed the visuals.

Don't think I'd pass up a chance to hug Cobi though regardless of the reason.

BTW DCBucky, I sent you a couple of PM's.

"Interesting"? I'd call them lovely!

BTW, Valencia beat Arsenal, so I can't be too happy for V.

Lauren & Campbell of Arsenal

Long tongued Liverpudlian spitter Diouf

Arsenal's Keown's ample bum

And let's not forget the college boys, who (I think) have their own spring training soon ...

Wisconsin's Nick Van Sicklen has a certain charm ...

But I'm still partial to Indiana's Ryan Mack (a 3rd-round pick by the Chicago Fire) and Ned Grabavoy.

Other suggestions??? biggrin.gif

Is there a law that goalies have to be hot?

Dallas and LA played to a one-all draw in a game that could only be interesting to a soccer junky - not many in the US of A judging by the "crowd" in the stands that could only be made to look as such by some very focused camera work.

But the goalies on display could make any fan of hunky athletes drool.

Unfortunately the Burns' foxy D J Countess was injured in the second half but his replacement Jeff Cassar was perfectly acceptable both as a defender and as eye-candy.

But the real show-stopper was Galaxy's ever gorgeous blond bomber Kevin Hartman who made an incredible double save late in the second half - once to block an attempted goal, bouncing the ball back to the kicker, then scrambling up to block an attempted crossing kick by the same player, all seemingly in one fluid motion that would have made anyone in the premier league proud.

One could quibble and say he should have caught it the first time instead of batting it. But quibblers aren't on the field making the play. I thought it was fantastic...and so is he. wink

This is quite possibly my second favorite website in the world (after Outsports of course). I can, and have, spent hours going through all the various pictures of my favorite Metros players (Clint Mathis, Tim Howard, Mike Petke-too bad he went to DC...)
sportinlife
Nice link to the Metrofanatics site metro. Now why didn't I guess you were a fan. Duuhh!

This photo of Clint Mathis pretty much sums up his personality. Love 'im or hate 'im, the guy has the attitude it takes to be a striker. Just wish he'd had more playing time in the Cup:)

I think Eddie Pope is my favorite Met. Steady Eddie, boring but dependable, and strong as an ox in the backfield.

Love the photos of Steve Jolley. In another photo he has thighs like tree trunks - a soccer specialty.

This link to Tony Meola is a pleasant surprise. Not many sites give a historical photo perspective of previous players. Should be a tradition IMO.
sportinlife
Real Madrid is chock full of talent as well as hunks. Raul is a classic heartthrob, Beckham's a cute ham, Zedine oozes sexuality, even Ronaldo's gapped teeth look good.

But the most adorable IMO is Roberto Carlos.

Get my good side

So cute when he concentrates

Nice close-up

Nothing pretentious here
John King

Landon Donovan is so hot. Damn, I like his mouth in this picture and the sexy way that he is looking out of his eyes.

A slightly distorted pic of Landon, but still a good one. He is one cutie.
metromathis13
Whoooooaaaaaa....who knew that Landon really does live up to all his hype!! Great pics John King...

Clint Mathis is still cuter though...
sportinlife
LMAO at Brent's caption for this photo in Catch 'em.

About to get a church lady special, that one. biggrin.gif

Is DaMarcus Beasley the fastest thing in the MLS?

Is Taylor Twellman the hunkiest guy in the MLS?, and a former Terp. wink

Is he celebrating in his undies here?

Ah, such profound questions.
