Why isn't there a thread yet on Project Runway?  It's only like the best show ever!     wink

A great suggestion from TheOtherFSU. I love this show too. It's getting über-bitchy. And the

drama...they actually got rid of the pretentious jerky-type guy in the first episode. This proves

the talent is primary. I think Austin Scarlett should get his own show. The facial expressions, the

hair, the makeup, his outfits, and the balls to make a dress out of cornhusks! Whata man.
simontexas
Hey, why doesn't anyone want to talk about Project Runway? Last night was a great episode. Wendy (the longshot) won the Banana Republic challenge and her design is gonna be sold in stores around the country. Starr (the horrid) finally got cut (pun intended) and everyone else got drunk except for Austin (the artist) who put on his full length hooded sleepwear with knee-high night socks and went to bed. They are all starting to turn on each other and a sneak peek of episodes to come showed a death threat and Austin having a breakdown.
C'mon guys, it's no fun talking to myself about the show. Watch it once - you'll get hooked like me. biggrin.gif
Seabaseballluvr
I absolutely hate watching stick thin models showing off clothes that you will never see in public...and yet...I can't stop watching this show!!! I stupidly fell asleep before the final ten minutes last night but I feel bad for the girl who looks like she is the girl from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" Is she the one who got knocked off?
simontexas
Yes, Starr (NBC) was cut last night. The judges said her dress looked like a jester outfit. She fell apart on the runway. Catch the repeat. I agree with you on the model part. I would not watch if they showed more of the models behind the scenes. That's so boring. I hope I didn't ruin it by giving away the winner. Sorry if I did and thanks for replying. smile.gif
batboy
Hey Simontexas, you're not alone. I love the show. I was wondering why no one started a thread on it. But I just chalked it up to reality burn out.

But I love the show because, you know what, the contestants actually have real talent. I mean, to make those clothes in just two days, amazing! I love watching the ending with the runway.

I do have to say that I don't like some of the judges, they think they know it all.

I loved this week's episode. I'm also falling in love with Robert, he's so fine. But next week looks like he konks his head. Hope it's not serious.

I thought Wendy's design for Banana was OK. I might have gone with another color besides black. But it had a nice cut. I'm happy for her considering how she was picked on the first two times.

And I love the guy with the weird hair and smokes a lot and thinks he's a rocker. Forgot his name. He did the Chrysler building dress. He's so funny!
simontexas
Oh yeah, you're talking about Jay. He is hilarious. After they went out drinking and Nora was gettin' all schmaltzy and talking about how she hopes her parents are proud that she's there; Jay says, "My parents don't even know I'm here." I nearly fell off my chair. I love him too and I really liked his dress. I thought he was gonna win the Banana challenge.
It doesn't look good for Robert but you know sometimes they play it up so you'll tune in. So I guess I'll have to tune in to see.

Allen
This is one of my favorite new shows to watch. Robert is my favorite since he is eye candy. However ... he is quite creative, but considering the other talents like Jay and Austin, he better step up a bit.
batboy
I think Austin is talented but I think he's too stuck in his theater background, everything has too much drama and won't be commercial enough.

Plus, he reminds me of that actor on NYPD Blue.
TheOtherFSU
OK I admit it... I'm addicted to Project Runway.

I love Austin. No, not that way. But he is very intriguing and certainly the most interesting of the bunch. Not only that, I think he's -- by far -- the most talented.

Something tells me that Austin is going to win the whole thing. Personally I think he had the best designs for all 3 episodes so far, but I've got a suspicion that the judges only gave him the win one time for fear that it might ruin the show if he won every time out.

And dare I say that I've got a minor crush on the model Melissa. She's hot.

This show is one of the best reality shows out there, next to the Amazing Race. Jay's dress was classy and absolutely beautiful. I thought he deserved to win as well, but Wendy's dress was Banana Republic, right down to the caplet. It was by far her best design.

Poor Starr, the girl with the slanted face, always looked as if she were crying. I felt bad for her, but her designs never had any sense of shape to them. Forget the whole cancer design the shape of the dress was horrible.

Austen is a total character. His cornhusk dress was amazing...as was his snow white inspired outfit. I do agree that his designs have a sense of the theater to them, however he could always be another Alexander McQueen.

Robert is a total hottie, and it looks like he's gonna get a serious knock on the head tonight.

So far they have cut the designers that really didn't make the cut...ha ha...but as it gets down and dirty, i think the designers who consistenly put out good designs every week are gonna be in the finals:

Austen
Jay
Kara

Nice thread SimonTX...

Allen
TheOtherFSU
Alas, no new episodes tonight... but if you missed any of the first 3, Bravo is airing a mini-marathon tonight with all 3 episodes. Next new episode is the week after next.
fantomas
I have been watching this show too; it's great. The judges and Frau Klum are totally annoying, but the wannabe designers are worth catching each week. Robert is really sexy, especially with the cornrowed hair. I was glad that dumpy silver shock-haired chick got her act together--and that Kara Saun (name?) reached out to her. Austin is just too precious for words. Sometimes he reminds me of a "Kids in the Hall" character, though I doubt that's his intention!

Austin is a riot and he's from Eugene, OR. So right there, he has a soft spot in my heart. Plus, I like his designs. The cornhusk dress...amazing.

And I agree with Fantomas. He does look lke a character right out of Kids in the Hall!
theodoresdaddy
what time and day is it on?

I never can find it except in the marathons
Niner_Fan
Anybody know if there is a new episode this Wednesday or is it still a rerun?
Allen
It's a brand new episode! I cannot wait!! biggrin.gif
Niner_Fan
It's going to get better and better as each week we are only left with the better designers.

So is this the week that Robert gets a nasty knock on the head?
Sportnerd
I watched the marathon on Sunday night after reading about the show here. It is pretty fun. I need to set up the VCR because I think the next episode is opposite Alias.

Anyway, I investigated it at their webpage and I thought Tim's Take was informative and entertaining. He gives insights into why certain dresses did or did not do well. For people like me, it is a valuable interpretation of the final standings.

Episode 3
Niner_Fan
They (Bravo) replays the show during the week and the same night I think.

I'm torn over watching Alias. I've kinda forgotten about it after last season, so...

maybe I'll give it a shot.

I agree, Tim's Take on the dresses are a perfect compliment to the show.
TheOtherFSU
Gawd, that Wendy bugs me! She needs to go.
batboy
Gawd, so much DRAMA in last night's episode. And Austin, pull it together man! This is a competition, now your birthday party.

Last night's episode was funny and it really brought out the bitchiness among everyone. I'm a bit sad to see Veronica go, only because her British accent added to the fun. I was hoping the short hair girl who made a scene during the development of the dresses would go.

And hey, they didn't show the scene in the previews where Robert fell down. I guess that's still to come. He's still one of my favorites just for the goofiness and his charm.

I'm getting tired of Heidi saying "alfedasane" or however you spell it at the end.
simontexas
I'm so sad. sad.gif I love Austin so much but I don't think his designs show enough variation. My new favorite is Jay. I loved his rock grrl design (French prostitute 2050)! But Kevin's dress did look good on that singer when they showed her performing at the end of the show. Poor Vanessa, I don't know why she said that when there was obviously enough ammunition to shoot Wendy off the runway. And Nora, oh my - her actions showed signs of bi-polar disease; calm but annoyed plunging into hysterical crying and then happy at the runway. I loved Austin's emotional breakdown and that scene in the elevator - I want that looping on my desktop!
FeverDog
Came across this show during a Bravo marathon. I'm hooked. Got a crush on Robert, so of course he's the only straight guy.
Niner_Fan
That Wendy Pepper is a beyatch!!!

I thought it was a horrible way to get rid of Vanessa. It had nothing to do with design...

Austin...get a grip my friend. And I agree with SimonTexas, Austin is stuck in a design rut...all his designs have a theatrical quality.

Jay's clothes have been great two weeks in a row.

I thought the singer picked the tackiest outfit of the three, but hey she is on the verge of neverous breakdown so I can't blame her all that much.
W.
Wendy is turning into quite the conniver, isn't she? But hey, didn't she suggest Austin should be the one to go because he didn't provide good leadership? Vanessa basically booted herself off by saying she was the weak link - if not for that, Nora's breakdown would've been enough to get rid of her.

I like Vanessa, but she's clearly not one of the top three. It's not all about design, as the episode with the silent auction showed. I think Kara Saun and Jay will make the final three, but I'm not sure who else will be there. I can't see Austin making it - he'll either get cut for his lack of diversity in his designs, or for having a breakdown at some point.
fantomas
They should have booted Nora. Either she had a psychotic episode, was on drugs, forgot to take them, or is just really too emotionally unstable and immature to be in such a high-pressure business, but whatever it was, she was really wacko and should have been booted, whether or not Vanessa (name?) slammed herself. Her honesty was refreshing.

BTW, who is that imperious judge who always sits in the middle chair? What has SHE ever done? She really comes down hard with the pronouncements, and I'm thinking, uh, who's ever HEARD of you?

That middle judge is no other than Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle magazine. rolleyes.gif Elle will feature the winning designer (and model); so she has a thing or two to say about who will appear in her magazine.
TheOtherFSU
I love Austin... his first two designs were my two favorites of the entire show, but geez... that wedding gown was hideous. And I don't care if the model loved it. It was simply awful. Still though, I'm glad he wasn't eliminated.

I really don't like Wendy. Her disdain for Austin is so weird. Obviously she sees him as a threat.

Kara is very talented. I can't see any way she doesn't make the top 2 or 3. She may win it all. Great designer and even-tempered. I like her.

Morgan has got to go. How can these designers keep picking her? All that drama. Geez... looks like she goes nuts (even more than usual) next week from the preview.
Mariner Duck Guy
I hated Austin's design. Simply horrible. That was not a wedding dress. During the credit roll, there is a disclaimer where the judges consult with the producers of the show on who will be eliminated. I wonder if the judges wanted to eliminate Austin this week due to that wretched design (and as much as I like him, he should have been eliminate) but because he makes for good tv, they eliminated Nora instead? I agreed with the judges pick on Kara Saun's dress.
MarinerFan
I also thought Austin was kept around as he makes for good TV! Where else on can you find those extremely weird facial expressions???

I was glad Kara won her dress was 100 times better than any other design.

Is anyone else scared of that Wendy chick? Did you see her blue eyeshadow, it made me cringe in fear...

This show is pretty entertaining due to the sheer cattiness of the designers! I love it!
Allen
Nora's dress was just dreadful. Purple roses?? It looked like something a 16 yr old would design on her notebook at school. Ick.

I'm thinking that the final 3 will be Kara Saun, Jay & maybe Kevin.

Funniest line from last night's show was when all the designers were meeting with the models for the first time and Kevin was talking about his model's (Olga) design ideas.

"She wants to have a lot of diamonds sprinkled all over her dress .... She's Russian." Nuff said!

And did you see the couple of shots of Robert just in his boxer briefs, yummy. Never realized how long his hair is!
simontexas
Kevin's Russian line was terribly funny. Poor Robio, trying to impress that little Cuban vixen, Alexandra; it seemed that Kara was the only one who went with him to the emergency room and she still won. She is definitely top 3. Jay - top 3 as well. That last spot is up for grabs. I think even though Austen's dress was awful (my opinion), that one Nora made was hideous. No style what so ever. And that model grinning ear-to-ear wearing it just looked simple-minded. I think Nora deserved to be eliminated and it had less to do with Austin's telegenic appeal.
Auf Wiedersehen! biggrin.gif
SoFlaSpartan
I've just decided what my favorite part of this show is. There's just something really cool about having Heidi Klum tell somebody in her hard German accent "You are in. Leave the runway" in that very direct tone that sounds so "Sprockets" from Saturday Night Live. Yes, sick, I know, but I love that.
W.
What in God's name did Austin do to his hair there at the end of the show? He looked liked some big-hair bimbo from the 80's. That man has to go. His swimsuit kicked ass, but still.

I still have Jay and Kara Saun in the final 3. Nobody else has pulled away yet, but I'm leaning towards Wendy. I liked her suit, although she was an idiot for saying she didn't make the thong. I was surprised to see Robert survive - his suit looked like something you could pull of the rack of any department store (much like Alexandra's).
TheOtherFSU
Austin's swimsuit was definitely the best in my opinion and I'm glad he won. And what a coup getting Melissa as his model again. She can definitely work it. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Melissa -- the youngest model on the whole show -- as the last model standing in the competition.

Austin... again fabulous. I hated Jay's swimsuit... he was right in that it looked like a bad S&M outfit. Kara Saun continues to be awesome, and I think either she or Austin will win the whole thing.

Wendy continues to be the one person who doesn't fit in. The assignment was to design a swimsuit and she designed a dress. Um, hello? The only one more annoying than Wendy is Morgan. She can work the runway well, but is all that drama really worth it to the designer who gets her? Geez.

Heidi Klum is growing on me. I agree with SoFlaSpartan... the German accent on "you are in" is a thing of beauty. smile.gif
MarinerFan
favorite lines from Heidi

"Fashion is a bitch you are either IN or OUT!"

"Aufwiedersehn" (glad my Dad and Mom don't read the boards here they would slap me with my bad German spelling biggrin.gif )

Mike
batboy
I'm getting tired of Austin, his hair was way out there at the end. I think he wanted to look like his model. I thought his swimsuit was OK but it wasn't cutting edge. I thought Kara's swimsuit was a bit more modern, although I thought her model didn't really work it that well.

I really thought Wendy would get the ax. I mean, she didn't follow the rules, she didn't design a bottom to her swimsuit! The judges are probably being influenced by the producers. Wendy adds more TV drama with her cattiness against Austin and poor Alexandria just wasn't doing anything interesting. And that girl's bikini was way too small.

I am not impressed by that dork from Page 6. Even though I know he has a lot of power, he doesn't know what he's talking about. I would have given the mention to Robert because he has the charm of a Kenneth Cole.

And does Heidi Klum really say "fashion is a bitch, you're either in or out." Hmm, I have to listen more clearly next week.

She doesn't say it every week. I know she has said it a couple of times.

Yes, the judges are influenced by the producers. They have a disclaimer of sorts that states the producers have some say in who stays and who goes. I don't think it's all about drama though - I think it has more to do with getting the best 3 designers to the finals. The guest judges only see what is done in 1 week, and it would be a shame to have a good designer cut from the show because of 1 bad week. In that way, it rewards the consistently good designers without punishing them for having a bad week. Alexandra has been coasting through and was pretty much middle of the pack every week (much like Robert). I think it'll be a fight between Robert, Kevin and Wendy to see who gets booted next week. Robert needs to come up with something that stands out to stay around much longer.
TheOtherFSU
Tonight's episode... a collection set in the year 2055. Kara Saun is so impressive week in and week out. Her designs are so amazing every time. There's no way she doesn't finish in the top 2. She's got to be the favorite to win it all at this point, with Austin a close second. The two of them are a cut above the rest.

Wendy... still bugs me. I wish she'd been eliminated tonight over Kevin, but Kevin was a really bad leader. Kara Saun pegged it correctly when she called Kevin passive-agressive tonight. Wendy is just so bitter.

Robert... love him. His designs never blow me away, but how can you not like him?
Mariner Duck Guy
My three favorites are Kara Saun, Austin & Jay, in that order. I think they will be the final three. Wendy bugs me and I have a feeling that next week will be Robert's last week. Thank gawd Morgan is gone!

I was surprised to read in Tim's Take that he was also glad that Morganza was goneza.

When I worked at a department store one summer, I volunteered to be a dresser (men's) at a fashion show. Talk about pressure! Anyhoo, this was in Hawaii and all the fashion were winter wear that would be appropriate for Minneapolis rather than Hawaii. I remember thinking to myself "Who the hell in Hawaii is going to wear this crap?" Then I heard the hostess of the fashion show informing the crowd. "Remember ladies, you have to work and sometimes sweat to look good!" I always remembered that. Heidi's "You're eithr in or you're out" line reminds me of that fashion show. And yes, the models were Gor-ge-ous.
MarinerFan
Based on last night show I think Kara Saun will finish in first! Not only were designs excellent, she also stepped in as a leader when Kevin just sat there with blank expresionless look he has had since day 1.

I think Austin and Jay will make up the rest of the final 3. Although I suspect Austin has been close to being 'Out' a couple of times, his work is inconsistent at best. It kind of seems like he is stuck in some 1950's time warp everything he designs looks like it is from that era.

I think Wendy or Robert will be the next to go.

Mike
batboy
Wendy just totally has the bad seed feel to her. She's just so conniving that she's taking time away from focusing on improving her designs, which apparently needs a lot of help. I agree with her that Kevin didn't show any leadership, but she just came out too strong like a barking dog out of the gate by criticizing him so strongly.

I'm looking forward to the final runway shows because I feel like all the challenges haven't allowed the designers to come up with innovative designs. I love Kara Saun's designs, but I feel like I've seen them before. (And I've definitely seen Austin's tailored look.) So hopefully we'll get to see some interesting work when they get to focus just on their own collection.

I say top three is Kara, Jai and Austin in that order. I love Robert for his personality and I hope Wendy leaves before him, just to keep that eye candy for awhile longer.

MDB, worked the runway show in Hawaii and there weren't any bikinis? Boy you were robbed!
fantomas
Too bad they didn't lose that streaked-hair ewe Wendy last night. She really should have been ushered out. I loved when the one critic said that her hideous design looked like something her cat "had coughed up," and Wendy just stared blankly, like a moose facing headlights. She's toxic and she deserves to be jettisoned.

Kara Saun's designs are consistently excellent, though I LOVED Jay's leatherette swim-suit last week. Austin I like having around because he's so outrageously flamboyant in his own person style, though his repertoire is proving itself to be severely limited. Robert, who is short in the talent department (seriously, his design really was interesting conceptually, but looked shoddily put together), is nice to look at. Kevin was consistently smug and annoying--and at other times totally out of it, as when he said he trusted that crackhead Morgan last week--but Wendy should have gone first.

He really doomed himself by not exerting more leadership AND by trying to separate his design out from the others. Had he not done so, I think Wendy would have been an automatic flush. As it is, another week with that viper.

I think Kara Saun will win the competition. Her designs are absolutely beautiful and she seems to be the most mature and level-headed of the bunch.

I also like Austin's designs because he chooses great fabrics, colors. His designs also seem to always have a classic /vintage flare to them.
Allen
I still think Kara Saun and Jay will be in the top 3. Their designs are always wonderful!!

I still have no idea who will be the third one. No clue!
simontexas
I can't wait until next week. Wendy's breakdown in that postal shirt and Austin's knobby knees. No wonder he couldn't dance in the other swimsuit episode. tongue.gif
Kevin screwed himself outta the competition with that outfit. Everyone's designs were environmental protection and his was Logan's Run/Blade Runner.
I was all about Austin at the beginning of the season but now I'm all about Jay. But you cannot deny Kara's talent - amazing.
Allen
I happy about one thing ...

No More MORGANZA!!

And I thought I was drama. I'm comatose against her!!
