Today's USA TODAY says filming starts soon to be aired in the Fall!

Mar 24 2004, 08:39 AM
Filming starts April 10th. The "Real World" house is about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel the Outsports conference is being held at, so we can take a walk over there (for those interested).
There is speculation on the radio that the producers will make the city look bad because of all the union problems they've had in mounting this version of the show. Should be interesting...

Show was never in Philly before, but MTV was setting up to film here, renovating the Real World house and completely pulled out a week ago because of disputes with local unions. I think that's what they mean by "returning" to Philly.

You would be aware of this if you were reading the Outsports Convention thread. Stalking the Real World dunces is now unofficially a convention activity. wink

They're not releasing cast names, but this was from the Daily News. Could it be him?
'Real' ruckus
Who throws a chair? Honestly.
The other night at Manny Brown's (512 South) some knucklehead threw a chair at the tall, buff, curly-haired blond castmate of MTV's "The Real World."
The unprovoked assailant came from across the room, and hurled the chair over a cameraman's head, toward the big fella from about 10 feet away, according to an eyewitness.
The cast member, whose name is rumored to be M.J., was struck by the airborne chair, that also hit his table, lessening the blow.
The culprit immediately ran out of the bar. Neither production staff nor the big guy, who was not injured, gave chase.

Yep, sounds like confirmation that M.J. is on the cast.

And they're going to work for Jon Bon Jovi...
QUOTE
IT'S BEEN A while since Jon Bon Jovi was on MTV.
But that could soon change.
Starting this week, the cast of MTV's \"The Real World\" will be working for the Philadelphia Soul, the arena football team co-owned by the New Jersey rocker.
The reality show's seven castmates will help staff the team's community relations department, which handles appearances at schools and other charity work.
The department has one full-time employee, Laura Furdon. Much of its work is performed by unpaid interns, as the cast members are believed to be.
The cast was seen at the Wachovia Center Saturday, witnessing the Soul's loss to the Las Vegas Gladiators.
The Soul's final home game is Saturday at the Wachovia Spectrum. Its season ends May 30.

Yes and most of the time, alcohol is playing a bigger part of the problem. Two years ago, it was fork-throwing Brynn in Vegas. Then, along came fist-throwing C.T. in Paris. Now, in San Diego, we have another fist-thrower (Brad) and "I've gone to jail for you bitch" Robin. Robin scares the hell out of me. I have a feeling that one day, some wacko seeking reality TV immortality will murder someone on The Real World.

I don't watch the show regularly anymore, mainly because the members of the last couple of casts have been so unlikeable. The show isn't so much about the individuals and their interactions with each other, but about partying and drinking and just generally being stupid. They don't seem to take the jobs seriously, and feel entitled to the big trip and don't appreciate it. And yes, they seem just plain dumb for the most part. I barely saw any episodes from Paris or San Diego for those reasons. The trend really seemed to start with the Las Vegas show and has gotten progressively worse.
Instead of a variety of people from varied backgrounds coming together, they seem like a bunch of spoiled upper middle class kids living on daddy's allowance to drink, drink, and drink.

from today's Phila. Daily News:
QUOTE
HERE'S A NOTE for those who think the castmates of MTV's \"The Real World\" want to do nothing more in Philly than go out drinking.
That's just most of the time.
Two have volunteered to work part-time for the Center for Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights.
The two guys, believed to be named Karamo and Willie, attended the nonprofit's eight year celebration on Thursday at the Independence Visitors Center (6th & Market).
Executive Director Stacey L. Sobel said the castmates, whose names she would not confirm, will work on education and community outreach projects.
They started work on Friday night when the center held a party to support gay marriage, at Shampoo (7th & Willow).
Karamo, Willie, and their five roommates at the former Seamen's Church Institute (3rd & Arch) also began working last week for the Philadelphia Soul, the arena football team co-owned by Jon Bon Jovi.
In another thread,
scottie posted
Sneak preview of Real World Philadelphia tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 10 PM, season premiere on Tuesday September 7th. Saw them filming at Gay Pride, Equality Forum, benefit for a local LGBT organization and know they filmed at one or two gay bars. Looking forward to seeing the show, hopefully producers won't edit city to look bad after all the union problems they had in setting up production.

I don't know if it's because I am getting older but I can't watch this show anymore. These yung'uns are just out of control. I agree with Penn State, it all went downhill with Las Vegas. I don't know if they purposely recruited these particular types of kids to be on the show or is this how this new generation really is?

Downhill from Las Vegas? Wow...you are generous....Try from London on. The Miami cast couldn't put a business plan together. The Hawaii crew included a woman who insisted that it was not her heavy drinking that caused her to lose consciousness rather it was someone had put a mickey in her drink. I can go on and on with the rest of the versions of this drival. I am angry that even after all of these years, there is yet to have an Asian male in a cast. But, a white frat looking male almost always makes it into the cast.....That's real world, alright....

To me New York, the first one, was the BEST! It was groundbreaking. It was cool.
I could still watch the Los Angeles season. I still liked the show somewhat alot.
San Francisco was too much of a downer.
I liked London 'cause it was the first time the show was outside the U.S.
Miami was nice. The fight between the gay dude and Melissa was cool. Flora falling/breaking the window while listening to Mike, Melissa and that other chick "having sex"(?) was funny.
Boston was okay. At this point I was getting tired.
Seattle I skippid BIG time!
Hawaii did it for me. I said Good bye" to the show!

To this day, I see the L.A. season as the worst. Everyone was fake...even more fake than any of the people who have been on the show since. I didn't even watch the repeats that aired between new episodes. Country hick John drove me nuts and drama queen Tammy made me want to smash my television...having her jaws wired shut was an answered prayer for me.

However, L.A.'s blond cutie Aaron was worth tuning in every week...especially hearing him talk about how he considered himself a virgin even though he loved to get blow jobs.
I do remember how I would cry at the end of each RW season (okay, not the L.A. season). The final season ender where I cried was RW Chicago (I really was a huge fan of Chris')...haven't shed a tear for these shallow losers since then.

I dont think its because youre old. I think because, like me, I cant get into a show called the Real World that speficially recruits models and actors now to be lumped into a house. How real can that be?
The past few seasons have been filled with pretty perfect people in their teens and early 20s whove never experienced anything in life, except for the 1 oddball they always throw in to try and recreate the drama that was Puck. It just doesnt work anymore. Sorry MTV!

I guess for me it was during the Boston season then the fakers hit hard on that show, and it really got worst during Hawaii, that's when I stopped watching. I can't say that I saw the L.A. cast as fakes. I don't know, I could be wrong here and infact they were all fakers, but I guess I still liked the show.
I remember and couldn't belive it when Tammy had her mouth wired shut. I guess she really did not want to exercise to shed the pounds!

This past season (San Diego) was the first RW I did not watch. I think Las Vegas went pretty low, except for Frank. Now when I see all the former castmates still trying to extend their "15 minutes", I feel awful for them -- Mike 'Miz', Trichelle, Mark from the first Road Rules. Move on, kids, move on.

New York, the first one, was AWESOME!
LA was cool.
San Fran made me cry a lot, especially after Pedro passed away.
London was nice and a bit dull. Also, I did see a split second of me when I was touring London at that time.
Miami annoyed me. I really did not care for the Joker looking gay guy. He almost made me think twice about coming out of the closet. (Well, my RA outted me instead at the time. Oh well.)
Boston was really cool. I liked everyone on the show.
Seattle surprised me w/ the effeminate gay guy slapping the girl on the face. Ouch!
Hawaii - I only watched a little bit. It was okay.
New Orleans - Danny totally made the show. He's such a cutie!!
Back to New York - BORING!
Chicago - Loved it! It's also cool I knew Kurt, Chris' love interest on that season.
Las Vegas - And you thought gay guys were bad??
Paris - Snooze ...
San Diego - Snooze ...
Maybe the Philly cast will be a bit more entertaining, but who knows?

With each passing season, I find my hate of the Un-Real World growing. This season, I'd be thrilled if someone, oh, I dunno, dropped a bomb on the house, killing all the whiny, self-indulgent, ignorant, drunk off their ass nimrods. I watched the first RW--and loved it (well, except for Kevin Powell. He was a bit of an ass--but then, who isn't during their college years?). I didn't watch another one until San Fran, and even then I only watched every now and again. I watched New Orleans--that was hilarious. I will never forget David's "sweedaboodweedaboodweed" stylings and Danny's disingenuity about getting blown in the Confessional room. He was positively Clintonesque. France was just. plain. sad. These kids weren't even sad enough to laugh at. I tried to watch this last bunch of f**ktards (San Diego), but every time I turned on the tv, I kept wanting something bad to happen. Like mutants to rise up and go on a killing spree. I seriously doubt I'll be watching this new Un-Real World. After all, I'm in my 30s and thus, I should be in a coffin somewhere.
I just know that if I were in my 20s and were "hot," I'd be cast as the Angry Black Man (Now with a Secret Sexuality!!) or the Angry OUT Black Gay Man (Watch as his head spins 'round at the Sweet Innocent White Chick from Iowa!!).

Karamo being gay was supp. to be a "surprise" to viewers, that's why MTV didn't publicize the fact there was 2nd gay male in this cast. Just like fellow cast members, you were supp. to be surprised when you learned about this.
I haven't watched Real World in a while, but have to watch this season because it was filmed in my hometown. I have to say that I think the producers really made Philly look beautiful in the 1st episode.

Finally, a black gay male on television. And on top of that, a hot guy (with a very nice booty.)
I also like Willie. He is cute and just a happy guy.
The only thing that I did not like about the show was how M.J. (who has a nice body, but a head like a turnip) kept going up to Willie and shaking his hand and saying that he was cool. It reminds me of how white guys come up to me, and my friends and do the same thing just because we are black.
