MJ looks like Michelangelo's reject of "David". Very similar features (the height, the bod, the curly hair and the cleft chin help), but not quite right as a package.
bobby78751
So...is anyone else sick and tired of hearing Karamo talk about "hip-hop style" guys. What a bore he is. Not to mention hypocritical.
CHIathlete
Don't forget racist. Karamo has admitted that as well. He's an embarrassment.

On TelevisionWithoutPity.com, there was a
survey on who is the most homophobic person in the house. Guess who won the most votes!

Karamo!! We're so proud!! biggrin.gif

As I said over in the thread about the Dr. Shill Primetime Dysfunctionstravaganza...

Kill them. Kill them all, the useless famewhores.
John King
Oh please, don't even get on somebody talking about liking hip-hop guys. All of the gay magazines focus on the Abercrombie and Fitch guys, etc. So what if he represents some faction of the community that like guys that do not fit this stereotype.

Oh, kalabro. You sound just like my partner. What yall don't understand is that some of us (read me!) would love to be one of those famewhores. But only for a little bit. I asked my partner if he'd apply with me for the Amazing Race and he looked at me as though I'd asked him to cut off his testicles.

My take is 15 minutes of fame is better than none. smile.gif
kalabro
Noire, my queer facilitator has been bugging me for about a year now to do the Amazing Race. Which, with the right amount of cajoling/bribery and the casting of six teams of blind/deaf/mutes, I'd probably do. For some reason, I don't see the participants of TAR as "famewhores--Jackassathon and Victimoria and Bahstin Rahb and Aaahmber excluded.

With the UNReal World, all those 20-something, vapid, brain-dead, alcohol addled, passive aggressive, in-out-between the closet, virgin-wish-they-were, mouthbreathing Aberzombie and Bitch f**ktards are the very epitome of "reality" show famewhores. They speak in canned, grammatically heinous "sentences" that sound like rejects from a "Self Help For f**ktards" book. They whine incessantly about juvenile shit (Shitvonda and queer-as-f**k Landon, I'm lookin' at your contrived asses) and try to convince the audience that their "drama" is somehow life-changing. Bitches, please.

And an even bigger WOW to the fact that anybody not confined to their bed with dead batteries in their remote control and the TV stuck on MTV is still watching.

I've enjoyed the Philadelphia season. I stopped watching both the Las Vegas and San Diego seasons after one episode, but I think the Philly season has been one of the better ones.

If Karamo doesn't fit into your mold of what a gay man should be, so be it. I find him fairly interesting. And Willie is a cutie with the upturned smile and doe eyes (if only he could stop smoking). But my fave is Sarah, and her "a woman has needs" episode was one of the more memorable ones.

Sure the show has some weird moments where my BF and I look at each other and think we're getting old cuz we can't relate to some of it, but it's still pretty fascinating to watch. There also aren't many shows on TV that even allow a same-sex kiss, let alone a show like Real World that embraces it as part of a storyline.

I agree. I cannot think of another show that regularly presents so many (admitted) REAL gay people (not the Aryan cartoons on "Queer as Volk"), real hard up straight women, real loud-mouth, horndog f**ked up straight men, and shows them behaving not according to some "Focus on the Family" fantasy, but as young'uns do, coupling up, acting out, just being wild and overemotional and passive-aggressive and true to this hypersexual, puritanical, media spectacle culture. I also cannot think of another show that depicted a black-latin male couple getting it in on in the shower. It has presented all kinds of things rarely or never seen before on TV, so the show is still groundbreaking.

AS for Bobby, again, he doth protest too much--so what if Karamo likes "hiphop" guys? That's his preference. If he fixated on the kinds of blond and fair-haired men you're also posting about, would you be so worked up?

Yes, I am sick and tired of hearing about hip-hop bois. But, look at the entire message I posted. I wouldn't be talking about Karamo being a hypocrite were it not for the fact that he talked badly about Shavonda and Landon's wonderful relationship being disgusting because she's a different race from Landon. I'm just calling it like I see it. BTW, thanks for paying attention to all of my posts. I think I now have a stalker.
TomFord
Karamo didn't say Shavonda and Landon's "wonderful relationship" was disgusting because Landon's white. She has a white boyfriend (Sean) already. Karamo was disgusted because she was about to--and then did--cheat on her boyfriend.

You may think that hooking up with a roommate when your boyfriend back home thinks you're being true to him is "wonderful"; Karamo doesn't, and I'm with him on this. Karamo was looking out for her in trying to tell her that she would hurt Sean by hooking up with Landon.

He also seems to think that how she acts will be a bad a reflection on black women, and he didn't want her to somehow let the side down by giving into Landon instead of staying true to her boyfriend (who happens to be white).

I'm not sure why you have a hard time understanding this. Unless, of course, you think that cheating is cool, and we should all rally around people who are about to cheat on their boyfriends cause it's fun and stuff. Or that any position Karamo takes is somehow suspect.

Karamo's not into white queens. He's no doubt not into black queens for that matter, but, as he said, the gay places he goes to with Willie seem all full of white queens. 'It's just a preference' as they say. Poor dude, I feel bad for him.

Are you not watching the show? Last week, MJ talked about Karamo's hypocritical attitude after Karamo brought home the Latino "hip-hop" guy. He said Karamo goes on and on about Landon and Shavonda's relationship then he brings home a guy who obviously isn't black. I think MJ even used the word hypocrite. The word "wonderful was used as a description of how happy Shavonda and Landon appear.
TomFord
Yeah, I am watching. I based my opinion of Karamo re the Landon Shavonda hook up on what HE says on camera, and not on what MJ or the others later say they have a problem with.

Karamo clearly says that he's disgusted at her for cheating on her boyfriend. That boyfriend happens to be white. For you to swallow MJ's crap that he has a problem with Landon hooking up with Shavonda because Landon's white is a crock--it makes no sense given that her long-term boyfriend IS white (unless you want to ditch logic in favor of Karamo-bashing). Especially given all Karamo had to say about how hurt Sean would be, and what a mistake Shavonda was making if she gave into Landon, because Sean (and, as Karamo pointed out, Sean's friends and his family) would later see her cheating on him.

MJ, being sheltered and all, assumes "hip-hop" guy means black guy. It doesn't. There's nothing hypocritical about Karamo hooking up with a Puerto Rican guy (who happens to have hip hop style).

That said, Karamo has said he prefers black guys, and that he doesn't ever expect to be with a white guy, and that's he's not a big fan of interracial relationships. He's also said that he gets that from what his dad tells him, and it's something that he's questioning.
StPtGator
Have to agree with TF that Karamo has not said anything about only dating black guys. And from the clips they show of him he is upset about Shawhorea and Land because she has a bf.
She is the biggest piece of work I've seen on any Real World. Her double standard with the BF back home is unbelievable.
I will say after last night that I don't care for Karamo. His attitude with the manager of the project and laughing in her face when she reprimanded him for not showing up showed his true character. Then he's giving props to Landon for how hard he works.
I think all 3 of them should have been fired for not showing up. Landon's excuse was lame.
You can see your family or whoever was visiting after you stop living in a sweet pad for free!
How refreshing would it be to see a gay guy that isn't a club whore?

It seems the producers really have a problem seeing through these people for the type they really are. Or(and this is more likely) they pick the ones that will creat huge drama.
I remember watching the initial NYC show and the choices seemed to have so much more depth. But except for the Julie-Kevin fight NO super drama. I still enjoyed watching that cast more then any that have come along since!

...did anyone catch a recent RW episode? MJ has a good friend that plays for the Pacers in the NBA. I don't think they said his last name, but in looking at the Pacers website there is only one David...David Harrison, 7-footer from Colorado.

That would probably be him since MJ said he's around 7 feet tall. I know MJ said they grew up together but I'm not sure if he went to Vandy like MJ did.
CHIathlete
David's father is/was a football coach at Vandy, I believe that would be the connection.
Joe in Philly
For those interested, I understand that they're filming the reunion show for this group in NYC today.
NoirDore
David didn't go to Vandy, although he was recruited extremely hard. Still kind of a sore spot for alot of Vandy fans. He and MJ both grew up in Nashville so they've known one another for quite some time.

I'm kinda sick of the MJ hype since it is only thing young people in the Nashville area can talk about. My partner and I are both 2 years removed from Vandy and a recent rumor has popped up that he had sex with MJ. As if!!! He has much better taste than that. Obviously. biggrin.gif

Well, given that a sizable number of/many Puerto Ricans, no matter how light or dark, have *some* African ancestry (cf. Tito Puente, J-Lo, Lauren Velez, Felix Trinidad, Carlos Delgado, Franky G., etc.), he could finesse this one, but I attribute a lot of his nonsense just to being young. (If you don't believe me on the PR tip, just crack a history book on the island.) All these RW Philly folks are messes, but the Real World has always sought the messes out. Especially black male messes.

Where would this show be without the steady train of crazy black men? The catalogue is long and notorious. (My friend) Kevin Powell; John; David; Cyrus; that sad disaster in Seattle (what was his name, later picked up for prostitution in LA?); etc. I think Alton was about the sanest of all of them, which ain't saying much. (Alton, Kevin, Karamo, David, and the cutie with the huge afro in NYC2 were at least great to look at.) The black women have been somewhat better, though again, they like messes--Tammy; Sharon in London; the two nutcases (Coral and the other woman) in NYC2; the confused girl in Boston; etc.

I'd add that for many black people (not all, but I am going to generalize here from experience), especially ones from the deep South, because of our experiences in this society, feelings of racial solidarity and protectiveness can tend to come out in environments that feel hostile, so I saw a weird sort of racial and paternalistic vibe going on between Karamo and Shavonda. It was as if Karamo didn't want Landon messing her over, when the truth is that she's a grown woman (childish and mixed up yes, as is Landon) who made certain choices, and it wasn't Karamo's responsibility to act like her big brother/play daddy, etc. At one point he was acting like he was her "man," and I though, uh, Karamo, don't forget, you are a homosexual, not her babydaddy....

ON TOP OF WHICH, Karamo's father is from Jamaica, and the young'un grew up in the U.S. South. What a combo! That he actually came out, ON TELEVISION, a miracle of some proportions. I think he'll grow out of a lot of his drama. He's no Farrakhan, or Will Mega. He does seem to have a brain, and he was very active this past fall in the presidential campaign, acting like he had good sense, so there's hope. But really, everyone on this cast needs some psychological help. It ain't just Karamo.

oh
William1865
The only thing I like about the Real World anymore is watching the first few episodes and seeing the new people and figuring out why I dislike them. Actually disliking them is just too boring to bother with.
bobby78751
It looks like Sarah loses it on tonight's episode. Out of everybody this season, she is my fave. I really like her carefree attitude.
chai-inNJ
I like Willie so much.

But I wanna know how tall Willie and Landon are? Anyone know?
bobby78751
Why, oh why do I cry at the end of every Real World season? Geez! Well, it is over and done with. Sarah was my favorite person by far. MJ's tenderness when Willie was talking about his homophobic mother was especially moving last night--then the kiss he gave Willie at the end of the stay, wow, that was totally unexpected!!! Next up, you will see my adopted town of Austin, Texas! smile.gif
kalabro
Like William, I usually watch about three eps, point out the boys I'd like to do, the ones I wouldn't touch with Ann Coulter's dick, and the girls who have queer facilitator potential. After that, I'm done. Also, this airs opposite Law and Order:SVU, so I'd rather watch an hour of trauma drama than thirty minutes of post-pubescent moronic drivel, possibly hot guys and tons of homoeroticism notwithstanding.

It's because - and I say this with absolutely no regard for your political views, if you were the keynote speaker at a Log Cabin convention and you asked this question I'd have the same gut reaction - it's because you're depraved. There's really no other explanation for this sort of behavior. Sorry.
theodoresdaddy
last night was very touching

I think this is the first season where you didn't have half the cast end up hating each other and/or at least one cast member get kicked out

and I was expecting Shavonda and Landon to go riding off into the sunset together

I'm curious to see what has happened between now and then

Tune in to the Real World/Road Rules Challenge, they are teammates on there. I think there is a Real World reunion show next Tuesday night.

I will watch next week

I'm a sucker for a happy ending
